There's nothing wrong with what he said. Dybala will turn 24 by next season, at that age the greatest players of their generations already had set the world on fire. He still lacks consistency and the confidence to take the next step.

I love the kid and I said he was the real deal since his Palermo days, anyone can go back to my posts and confirm that. BUT either he's a very late bloomer or his full potential will never be reached. Because again, people like fat Ronaldo, Neymar, Messi, etc... Were beasts at 20 years old. He's soon to be 24.

I agree with some of what Pelé said, even if he's most probably basing his opinion on two games. Dybala at this point should be far more consistent, he's gone back to being a timid and peripheral figure with flashes of his immense talent. I keep hearing what a driven and focused figure he is. Next season is a big one for him. Like CK says, he's not just promise now.

Oh, and a bit of first touch practise would be nice because towards the end of the season he looked as if he'd have trouble trapping a bag of sand. I don't think I've ever seen someone with a combination of brilliant close control at speed and variable first touch into feet.

First touch won't make him a matchwinner though... he needs to hit the top corner with his curlers more often. If he scored with his curler against Brazil, Pele probably wouldn't have questioned Dybala.

It's because he has zero fundamentals of receiving a ball. He tries all sorts of weird contortions just to avoid a first touch with his right foot. It's hard enough to receive a pass against professionals but trying to do it with only one of your feet is impossible.

Also, I don't think people really believed Dybala was the next Ronaldo, Messi, Fat Ronaldo, Neymar etc did they? I don't know where these expectations came from.

Also x2, I will go out on a limb and say Schick has more potential than Dybala :snoop:

He's a great player who's got everything needed to be a balon d'or winner one day, but in order to get there he must move up a few levels psychologicaly.
The difference between his home games performances and the away ones is huge, and that's basically a mental problem.
Next season he must take that step to the elite club, he's not a young player anymore.

the lad is devastated. I just saw the match vs Brazil, his first touch is not good enough.
he is under a lot of pressure every time he touched the ball.. it is like he want to do magic every time or he just want to pass it..

he should play closer to the goal as SS, no need to waste him as AM or trequaresta.

He needs to make the step forward to become the decisive figure in our team, if he wants to become one of the greats that is. It's simply not good enough to be decisive in a few games and then put out lackluster performances in the other crucial matches.
He needs to shoulder more responsibility and lead.

Had the weakest season amongst our offensive players, even worse then Cuads. Despite his moments of magic,he's been underwhelming overall.
Hopefully he'll develop great chemistry with Schick
