Anybody saying Xavi is better than Zidane has to be new to the sport or didn't watch Zidane day after day, match after match. On a daily basis, Zidane was like watching genius. The flashes of brilliance Xavi shows and his "dominant" matches were regular occurences for Zidane. And Xavi rarely ever dominants a match like Zidane did for YEARS. Zidane at Madrid was almost unfair.

I think the one thing people don't appreciate about Zidane is how dominant he truly was in midfield, people who never watched it or saw the tail end of his career don't get it and didn't see it but talk like they did because they saw the end.

Zidane consistent on a daily basis? Zidane at Madrid unfair? Ridiculous. Take a look at his stats and how "dominant" Madrid was back then, you're picking pretty much the only arguments that work in Xavi's favor.

Experience is a big thing if you're slightly below that level though. I think that's why a lot of players are better in the 28-32 age range than they were before. But experience doesn't matter that much if you're a monster like Messi.

It's a mix of them being built as machines and proper training and rehab. Brazilian Ronaldo did not only have three horrific knee injuries, he also had surgery on them in a time when surgical techniques were less advanced than they are today (not that a lot of athletes would bounce back from those injuries today either though).

Fabregas and Rooney have always looked a bit lazy to me and they also started their career even sooner than Messi and Ronaldo. Both were starters for top clubs / countries aged 17.

Zlatan is a late bloomer, he came to Juve in 2004 when he was 23 and gradually became better reaching his best around 2008/09 under Mourinho

Ronaldo nazario came back fat and 3 knee injuries later, and was still hands down the best forward in the world. All his teammates post-inter said he didnt like training as "he didnt see the purpose, he could never train and still be the best".


Imagine this Ronaldo remaining injury free. Imagine him having a big name forcing him to play to his limits.



We saw 2 seasons of this Ronaldo, and i've never seen a player in my life who was so utterly domminating against the very best of the legendary defenders as he was.

Probably because he sees Higuain as his father figure and no-one like to play with their father.

He was bad yesterday. And the miss wasn't good as well.

However in his defense, the system left him extremely isolated. He was the sole responsible for creating something from the centre. He had to carry the ball and try to go through 2-3 players in order to move it forward. Last year he had pogba next to him. Pogba attacking from the centre-left, Dubala drifting towards the right. The opponent had to mark both. Yesterday he could only occasionally combine with Cuadr during built-up, which resulted into a couple of good attacks.

Dybala should never be fielded without pjanic behind him or in an attacking trio with another winger on the other side. The attacking responsibility should always be split. No player ever could take the complete responsibility for creating and linking a team. We are playing 3-5-2 in important games to become more defensively strong and instead we manage exactly the opposite thing. We can't carry the ball for 2 subsequent minutes. Dybala is not an unknown quantity anymore. When an opposite manager sees him in the hole behind the attacker, we will adapt his tactics to mark him (or fight him) off.

Make the midfield stronger, learn to carry the ball and the defence won't be so exposed.

It seems that way to me too. Cavani or Benzema, allthough different types of CFs, both would have been a better fit for him than Higuain. Higuain is a goalscorer that needs the team to work for him, which automatically means you build the team around him (no brainer after splashing 90M for his signature), and not Dybala - mistake. Im not saying buying Higuain was a mistake as hes been great so far, but if I have Dybala already, id try to build the team around him and get him players that would help bring the best out of him

Dybala is just finding form after a long injury. It was a really tough game for him as Fiorentina paid special attention to him by pretty much just fouling him every time he got on the ball. I'm sure he'll have a crazy good year that lifts his status even more no need to panic over one tough game.
