You saw Ronaldo nazario pre-injury and Zidane against legendary defenders. One of them who at 37 put Messi in his pocket.
Their careers were long gone before Ronaldo and Messi peaked. And even so, they were less of a constant force than either Messi or Ronaldo.

Injuries definitely hampered Brazilian Ronaldo, but that too is part of talent.

but people talk of him being a direct replacement of messi. event footballers say that. i think thats is very exhagerrated
Messi si unique. His CV is enough to prove it. I think any football fan can conclude this by now.

Dybala will most likely never reach messi´s achievement, so comparison are useless. Not dybala´s fault but if you look at it in another perspective...Messi has been the first striker to be this effective in the history of european football. No one before him has been as releveant in europe. We all know we have our own idols, but fact is that messi has put the numbers and grabbed the trophies.

Until someone else comes and emulates, or best his records, talk is futile.

And btw, that one trick pony Dwarf bores me, but his skill is unquestioned.

Except you know even during Messi's career there's someone scoring and winning just as much.

Messi is great and all, no doubt about dat.
But it's really hard to compare players from different epochs. For example, original Ronaldo, who is the most complete attacking player in my book from what I've seen, was not nearly protected by the refs as much as nowadays stars. Some fouls on him was plain brutal, Uefa would ban someone to half a year at least if he touches up Messi or CriRo this way, and in young Ronaldo times it was only yellow card sometimes.

Honestly I think It would be hard to find in the past two teams so ref-in -the-pocket for so long that It have been with Farca-Madrid. They r so use to the extra help that some farca-boys like pique are trying to put all their.current situation to the referees and just two games ago they played once more against 9 men in the Atletic game. And there's no need to talk about RM and all that ridiculous situation against that middle team in the japanesee league

Messi and Cristiano are great, no doubt about It, but Uefa and Fifa did everything they could to make than both bigger that what they deserve.

Maradona with that help would have two WC and Pele would achieve 2000 goals

No matter how much you hate Messi ,you have to admit he is the greatest player ever !
There's another player playing right now and scoring and winning just as much.

In terms of sheer ability, I think you could say Messi is the best ever.

It's even hard to compare sheer ability. Football changes, doping, training etc. It's not fair to compare Messi with someone like Pele for example. On youtube Messi looks like player from another player, but Pele has 3 WC wins (and would have had 4 if refs were not that blind).

To compare a footballer from Pele's age to Messi's (our current) brings many difficulties. The sport has changed a lot. Tactically and physically.

But nevertheless, a great player is a great player. If you would time travel Messi to Pele's age, he obviously would dominate, if not even more, just the same as he has done in our time.

The same with Pele: if he grew up around our time and got the same disciplined training, media coverage, physical benefits etc, he would surely succeed to be one of the greats too.

A truly legendary player comes around very rarely, and when he does, we all take notice.

no matter if it's 50 years ago or now.

Dybala will sign a 5-year contract that will pay him 5m/year in the 1st year which will increase to 7m/year in the 3rd year. #LaStampa
