His primary duty is to score. Saying his defensive work rate enhances his quality AS A CENTER FORWARD is about the same as saying Evra scoring goals enhances his quality AS A DEFENDER.

It's an added bonus but running 20 kms each game or making slide tackles is not what he was purchased for.
scoring goals would make evra a better PLAYER. just ask ancelotti, mourinho or zidane about ramos. you might also remember vidal, who's "primary duty" (whatever it means this time) wasn't scoring, but damn, i loved that he was good at it.

It's 2017 son. His time at the top is up.

Forget top foreign teams, he wouldn't start in any of the top Italian teams. Wouldn't start at Inter or Roma. And definitely doesn't suit the style of football Napoli play. Only Milan is a realistic option.

He has had a good run of form in the past few games but man really , the time has come to start your best offensive players week in week out. Beyond me how Dybala-Higuaín haven't started consecutive games together yet.

He's a good backup though. No doubt about that.
lol, of course he'd start for Napoli, you seriously think Gabbiadini or Milik could bench him?
Inter and Roma would probably try to find a way to play Icardi/Džeko and Mandžukič together and if not, Mandžukič would give both a serious competition

its 2017 and he is still starting for a top4 club in Europe, son

lol at him not starting for any top Serie A team. only inter because of Icardi could be true, but then you have no idea if they would adjust their formation to a 2 striker system if Mandzo was playing there

ive been hearing the same in 2015 with Nando and 2016 with Mandzo. Allegri so far, apart from a few mistakes, has been spot on with his striker rotations for 3 seasons now. introduced Morata and Dybala into the starting XI just the right way while keeping enough minutes for the experienced player to feel important. this season Higgy was new so he naturally didnt walk into the starting XI right away (obviously more experienced and established player than Dybi and Morata when they arrived, so it took him much less time). once he did Allegri did his usual thing with subbing one for another and rotating them (did the same with Morata/Mandzu last year) until Dybi got injured. now hes again doing the right thing with Dybala with not rushing him back into the starting XI and playing the 2 in form strikers. Dybala and Higuain will eventually be the go to duo this season (if healthy obviously) down the key months of the season, but Mandzukic has been fantastic for us ever since late October so benching him for now is not an easy decision to do and would make no sense, especially when looking at the results. and thats no reason for people (not you necessary) to complain all the time that Dybala is not playing. patience, hell be our star attacker again soon enough.

hes a GREAT backup, cant think of many clubs that have that great of a player to rotate with the starting duo

Common man, he's a freaking center forward. He's there to score goals or provide assists. If his defensive work rate makes you think he's a better player than fair enough but that doesn't necessarily make him a better STRIKER.

Why do we have to compromise on our offensive ability just to field someone who can run more and make slide tackles ? See Mandzukic is a good football player no denying that but Juventus play better and has a bigger chance to win Champions league if they start their best offensive duo regularly. That's all.

There's no need to highlight Mandzukic's defensive skills just to make a point because we're strictly speaking strikers and goals here.

you dont know that. we could have gotten a more traditional CF like Gomez or other names that were linked to us if finishing chances was the thing we were after. im not saying it was for the tackles and running either, im saying is we dont know the reasons he was purchased for

Mandzukic would bench Dzeko eventually imo, even though the later was in great scoring form and was important in build up for them this season

He doesn't suit their style of football. Napoli wouldn't even consider buying him tbh.

He's not a starter here.

Don't get me wrong. I like the guy and think he has performed decently with us but so far (in his Juve career) he's not done enough to prove he should be a starter here.

Note: He'd definitely start for Napoli and Roma. It shouldn't even be discussed
hes been more or less a starter last season and this season hes started 17 out of 24 games for us already. i know hed play less if Dybala was healthy but still a lot

Zizinho is such a stubborn numb-skull at times. Take his stance regarding Luiz "past it" Gustavo for instance. As for Mandzukic being a starter, he shouldn't be when both Dybala and Higuain are fully fit. It's an eyesore watching Mandzukic and Higuain trying to link up. It's like pairing Trezeguet with Kovacic or Diego Costa with Dzeko.

It's not ideal, but I think both are pretty versatile. The pairs you mention are definitely worse.

More to the point though: it's obvious that if Dybala and Higuain are both fit and performing up to their standards, Mandzukic will be benched.

Lol. What kind of insane comment is that? That would mean we have to sell Higuain next year.
