His finishing was poor today, he looked too eager to just shoot on sight straight away. But still got an assist and had a big hand in Alex Sandro's goal.
He did not get an assist? Yeah poor shooting but was constantly involved (passed Khedira who assisted, and opening pass for Licht in the counter for Sandro goal) and almost played as a midfielder with how deep he started off often.

But still got an assist

I was scratching my head how you could say this, he could only get hockey style 2nd or 3rd assist for Morata 2nd and Sandro goals, but then I realized they mean Pogba's goal  Very loose definition of assist to give it for this:

If you need to dribble 2-3 players and get your own way into the box to score, then your goal didnt have an assist IMO lol.

The assist system is kinda flawed in itself, Dybala today picked up an assist from that standard pass to Pogba but didn't get any from his huge contribution to Morata's second and Sandro's.

Yeah, but I get not getting assist for the others, even if his build up created the chance for the goal to happen (we just have to acknowledge the ability to build up plays, ala Pirlo, Xavi, Zizou did alot), he didnt make the final assist, as football assists are only counted as. But to count a sitaution where a player needs to dribble 10ms further into the box and shoot is bit silly. Its easy enough assist to get if you just side way passed Pogba and he immediately shot off a brilliant rocket, its a technically an assist tho not impressive one, but how the actual goal was assist doesnt even make sense. Goalscorer made his own play.

Theres no prize for top assists. Stats aren't as important as people make out.

Not a big individual price, more of a nominal stats one for playmakers, they get acknowledged every year by IHFS.

For sure, just pointing out how little assists really say anyways.

I dont think outside of Italy that Pirlo i truly considered a playmaker. He usually has the killer pass that opens the defense and leads to goalscoring chances but not one to be around the box. Truly a shame but his amount of key passes are extremely high

Who cares. Every single player who makes that kind of pass gets an assist. I never hear you guys complaining when Messi gets an assist on a Neymar goal when Neymar dribbles like 3-4 players afterwards.

These types of assists make up for the fact that other passes that aren't the last pass, but basically create the chance completely, aren't counted as assists.

And yes, Dybala passed the ball to Pogba in space, which gave Pogba the chance to run at the defence with speed. It's perfectly fine that it's counted as an assist. It's counted as an assist in every sport. The last pass. FFS hockey counts two assists. An NFL QB gets a TD pass to his stats when he passes the ball 1 yard forward, and the receiver runs 80 yards making 5 defenders miss tackles.

It's an assist. Just like for every other player in football.

It's not as if Dybala passed the ball to Pogba in our penalty area, and Pogba run the length of the field and dribbled past 10 players. The ball was passed close to their goal, and it was a key pass that created a goal.
