Yeah first it was Vidal and Marchisio then vidal left..we brought khadira and sturaro working his ass off on midfield clean up duty, and in addition to a better Sandro who allowed us to be safe defensively as a team, where jogba could operate enough in shitty non threatening serie A but that midfield would never be enough for CL.
For CL Pogba+Loca is still soft, to get it right we'd need at least a kante type for the third player for at least 50-60m to anchor that soft pussy midfield with Pogba in it (locateli is no destroyer himself) Plus Who will be back up for these players in the CL Bent? Mckenie? No they are not at same level..so that's another 30m at least for a decent backup/4th mid that's 80m.

He first played with Pirlo-Vidal, or Pirlo-Marchisio and he did great. Then last season here it was many different setups, because Khedira and Marchisio missed a lot of games, especially in the last 2-3 months where Pogba played his best football. At France he wasn't always paired with Kante. Remember when DD benched Kante and played a Matuidi Pogba Sissoko midfield at the 2016 Euros. And now he plays with Rabiot.
Locatelli can defend fine, after Bentancur he's our best defensive midfielder. And Pogba might not be a workhorse but he's physical. Allegri won vs Chelsea with Rabiot, Locatelli, Bentancur, you think if you substitute Rabiot for Pogba there we will crumble?

I for one don't want those wages paid just to win the league..if anything it would be for the CL...problem is he is not enough. what he did here his last year was enough for serie A and how balanced this team was defensively back then, again reflected by the goals we conceded that year. However that team was not good enough to ever win the CL or come close.

That year we had a great chance if we passed Bayern, which we should have, but ref errors in both games cost us. Wolfsburg, Benfica, City pre Guardiola, those were the kind of teams you had to deal with in QF. Atletico took out one of the 2 great obstacles in MSN Barca, and Madrid wasnt as strong as the year after. And we entered our peak form right at that time. I imagine Pogba and his "leadership qualities" woukd be perceived different if we made a far run that year, with him as a main man.

Matuidi is great at reading the game and covering ground, but hes not a destroyer, someone who will make many tackles and interceptions like a Vidal or Kante. There is no player in history like that. His salary if it remains like this (17.5M euros net a quick google search tells me), under new tax rules in Italy, its around 21M gross. Dybala if he gets 10M net extension would be at 17M gross. So even a small pay cut from Pogba makes him affordable to us.

Same people who flipped their shit about signing an “old” Higuain, want to sign an older Pogba on over double the wages. We paid a stupid ass transfer fee for Higgy and would be paying absurd wages for a 6 year flop like Pogba.

De Bruyne is a game changer. He is a hub he is a threat and he provides assists. He is a problem for any opponent. Kante is an anchor. Also a game changer, him being on the field means the difference between a midfield holding or breaking against the Bayerns of this world. Pogba is NONE of the above. He is a little bit of this and little bit of that, not even consistent enough at THAT. The100m player who looked good alongside Pirlo is long gone, it was his peak. Time to let go, truth is harsh.
