But CR7 is far more than a goalscorer. He is a true leader, and an excellent motivator. Portugal is nothing without him, and we all know how he carried us these past few seasons.

Of course it easier to perform well when you have other good players around you, that is true for every single player. It's pretty obvious that it's easier to perform well when you play with midfield partners like Pirlo, Vidal, Marchisio and Kante compared to when you play with players like Padoin, Struaro, Fred and McTominay.

Imo in midfield the key is to have a good mix of characteristics. Pogba will never be able to do the things Kante does just like Kante will never be able to do the things Pogba does. In a well constructed midfield Pogba doesn't need to be Kante, he brings different qualities into the team.

Aside from generational talents like Vidal who could do both what Kante does and what Pogba does easy peasy. Some here try to make out that Pogba is that type of insane all-around beast, and he just isn’t.

I can agree with that. Pogba used to be more of a worker when he still played here but I don't think today's Pogba gives you consistent enough work-rate to rely on him defensively over a long season.

Pirlo had a low work rate yes, but pirlo had an eye unmatched in football where he could spray that ball anytime to anywhere and with perfect timing every time, pirlo put pressure on and scrambled defences with one touch from middle of pitch..Pirlo carried out and dictated pace of the match consistently throughout his career. Pirlo could take FKs second to none.. The tradeoff of the imbalance pirlo created was more than worth having Vidal and gatusso be his bodyguard and make up for his lack of workrate. What is the tradeoff for playing Pogba? That this MIGHT be one of those 2-3 times a year he actually lives up to his pricetag against a mid table opponent? Or that we might see a trick or skill that looks good but isn't worth a damn? You seriously using pirlos name in the same sentence with this hairmeme I think it's you that has a lot of watching to do.

If 15 year olds think Pogba is cool and want his jersey it doesn't concern his ability and doesn't mean his football ability deserves 100m and that it will benefit our midfield. I prefer to leave paying inflated prices for overrated players to plastic English clubs.
