Of course he was played out of position. Doesn't change the fact he had a shit Euros. Would that have changed if he had been played in his proper position? Likely. But the best CM in the world according to you should not have fallen off a cliff performance-wise just because he was played in a different part of the midfield.

The obvious answer is that he's nowhere near as consistent and versatile as some make him out to be, if being shifted to another part of the midfield makes him play like shit.

Short stretches of dominance don't mean shit yet. I reserve final judgment on Pogba until he performs consistently.
its a big factor if you play a guy whos strengths are clearly not suited for a holding midfielder role (both offensively and defensively). Pogba needs to go forward where he can create something, not hold the midfield for others, and it was stupid to expect of him to suddenly turn into a Pirlo or Alonso there. and he wasnt as bad as many make it out to be btw, apart from the final was their best mid

Yeah. I mean, I definitely have a tendency to overrate our players, and underrate others. It's fun to bash other teams top players and laugh when they fail. Part of being a fan I suppose.

However, I did say to @Hist multiple times that I would love Higuain here, and think he would do even better in this environment, over the course of the last 1.5 seasons. Didn't stop me from bashing him and laughing when he choked, but I could still recognize even so, what an amazing player he is.

The Morata > Higuain stuff was always trolling. And emotions speaking while watching him score in CL.

I still think Pogba was the "best-performing" CM in football over the last 2-3 months of the season... but there is a difference between saying that, and saying he's the best CM in football. One 2-3 month spell at the top doesn't make him the best, especially after the trash Euros he had, even if he was played out of position. He's definitely top 5-6 CMs in football already, which is damn impressive for a 23 year old.

We also need to remember how out of place he was when he din't have Marchisio playing alongside him. Pure crap in some games.

This is not coping mechanism , this is just plain truth. Pogba had an unreal 2-3 month period during the fag end of the season but he was mostly hit and miss before.

He doesn't have the consistency of other WC experienced mid fielders yet to be called the best. It's ridiculous. Basically people falling for talent and hype.

Heck he hasn't even had a season as good as Dybala had in his entire Juve spell.

It was no surprise to see him flop in the EURO's really because he was receiving a lot of unwarranted hype and still is. He is not that good yet. He doesn't influence games the same way other top midfielders do consistently.

I've always wanted to say this. What we will lose in Pogba is his marketability and his future potential but for now, we should be absolutely fine. People think he's Cristiano of midfielders or something ffs. Even Cristiano was light years ahead of him in consistency at the same age.
