I have a feeling it's going to be Herrera + Witsel.

Conte said just yesterday that Matic was unsellable and he sees him as an absolute top-midfielder for Chelsea.

Herrera will be great. Witsel will be a waste of 25M. Still hope an EPL pips us to him though.
I surprisingly see Witsel add value to our set up. Though it is the Herrrera like Vidal type replacement that is the first and primary need in Pogbas absence, because Pjanic will cover a lot of the visionary and finesse aspects of the game, but we need a physical presence to go up and down imposing our play in the middle of the park.

its not over yet :sigh:

but if he goes i absolutely trust Marotta to build an even stronger team
To be honest, our midfield will never be as strong as it was the last three years, on paper anyway. All we can hope for is having a similar profile and structure to keep the same vision and physicality in the middle of the pitch. All depends on how Marchisio comes back from his injury. If he comes back strong, then the PogbaVidal replacements will fit in easier. Just such a big mistake selling Arturo.

OK, onto the next one. Pogba was one of the best midfielders I've ever seen play, but if his mind is out and money is right, let him go.

Now sign a WC midfielder who can provide some physicality. Hopefully around 24/26 yrs old. If Marotta nails this one, the Pogba replacement couldn't be better, really.

The point is we haven't spent anywhere close to what we can yet. Even without the Zaza sale. We're basically at 0 net expenditure for the summer, if Pogba is sold.

We can easily afford to spend well over 50M into the negative this summer as the post I quoted states, and as our mercato history of the last 5 years illustrates. So how has our transfer kitty been blown already? It clearly hasn't.
Yep. We absolutely can afford a 50M WC midfielder now. Marotta must get this one right to finish the process of transitioning without our main player of the past 2 or 3 years.
