Lots of star players went from world class teams to weak(ish) teams for crazy money.

Maradona went from Barcelona to Napoli when they were nobodies. Milan were also nobodies when Berlusconi bought them, yet world class players starting going there for the money. Tevez went from the CL winners United to a team that just finished 10th in EPL and just got bought by a rich Arab. Not too long ago Di Maria starred in the CL and won it, just to leave for a Manchester United that didn't make it to the CL.

I don't know much about the French tax system except that it's very different and also Psg are very secretive with their finances so can't verify how much he got Paris. Don't think footballleaks exposed any psg transfers/contracts either
English clubs are relatively transparent (especially ManUtd being listed et al) and some reliable newspapers saying £200pw-£220pw.
