Ok. So, let's say that this deal is done for Pogba at 120 million. Do we get that in one lump sum? If so, with the Higuain purchase being in two installments, and Zaza most likely being sold, isn't it entirely possible that we can get 2 very good midfielders in addition to Pjanic, and potentially be as strong, if not stronger than last year?

Just a theory

It's possible, but not if the midfielders are Witsel and another idiot.

That's basically what I was saying.

The Higuain clause is payable in 2 installments so if we become 125m richer with Pogba leaving that leaves us having to spend 47m on the first Higuain installment and leaving nearly 80m left. All depends if ManU pay us the lump sum. If that's the case then we can definitely make the midfield stronger with 80m to spend.

I don't like Witsel at all.

But let's say, just to throw this out there, that it is Matic and Herrera?

We'd be looking at Matic, Herrera, Pjanic, Lemina, Asamoah, Hernanes, Sturaro, Khedira, and Marchisio when he comes back.

That would be a damn good midfield

Everything makes sense for Pogba to leave next year. If Raiola wants what is "best for the player" then how does it make sense to carry water for Mourinho on Thursday nights in Midtjylland when you could play right behind Dybala-Higuain in the CL?

Pogba can make a run for ballon d'or this year while Man U slums it in the EL and next year when it's all settled he can move to them. Why waste a year in his prime? Raiola can get the same fee next year.

If Higuain's clause is in 2 installments then we can pay this year's sum without moving Pogba.

It may not be connected to Pogbas transaction, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any connection to outgoing sales altogether? We will always look to balance the books with our net spends. It's just that we don't need to sell Pogba to buy Higuain, and moreso because the latter requires an investment of 47m split over two seasons, it can be offset across personnel sales without much risk.

For Pogba, if the player was leaving on his terms, which is more wages or he leaves, then Juve would not have leverage in the negotiations as they do currently. The point being, if they don't get their price, Pogba stays. Which to me doesn't seem like a one way street where the player wants out, because if that was the case, staying wouldn't be an option. Juve have their part to play in this. Hard to see how they don't.
We do?

We make enough revenue that we can spend more in the market than we sell each year. Like any other big club.

Last year we spent 57mil more than we sold.

Or do you mean something else?

Is that the rumor? I can see that being an option if we sell Zaza for 30.

Selling Pogba, and getting Higuain + Herrera + Matic makes us a better team imo. The only issue is long-term. But Paul was never going to stay more than 1-2 more years anyways. I'm ready for this saga to be over.

There are so many postings in so many threads right now I can't keep up so your two posts look the most inviting

MikeM might be right...Pogba surely must know it makes sense to stay with this Army we are building. We can't pay that 47m (Half of Pipita clause) out of our own budget with OTHER player sales.

Next year sell for 125m + to finish the other Higuain 47m and complete the squad for a post-Pogba era.

Or we can sell Pogba now and do it a year earlier. Would be so sweet to NOT sell Pogba.

Then again, what if we do win the CL would he even want to leave then? Why would he? He literally has everything he needs here minus the massive pay check United would offer.

No, didn't mean it in the literal sense, what I meant is we are cautious with our spends/buys wherein it won't be 94m for Higuain without any sales whatsoever. Keeping an eye on balanced books in the long term.

Mascherano and Herrera for me. But Matic + Witsel is another possible combination because we have seemingly followed those two for a while. Ideally, is really like Herrera. He just seems like the guy who will keep the dynamics of the midfield alive vis a vid the other names mentioned. Pjanic is too static. We are losing a lot of explosiveness if Paul goes.

Cool.

I agree with you. Do you think the club is going all-in for CL with the idea to keep Paul for one more year, and sell him next summer to balance the books?

Class midfield options are kind of light this summer, so perhaps we wait for the opportunity next summer. I just don't get Pogba wanting to leave this summer, especially with the signings we have made, and labour Europa League obscurity.
