If this competition wants to regain its credibility than the award should go to the German. Being protagonist of the 2014 WC winning team, arguably the most important trophy that one footballer can win in his career, should make this a fairly easy choice. But Christina will probably win as this is nothing more than a popularity contest.

Ronaldo is fantastic player obviously, but Muller won the most important trophy last year, while having succesful season with Bayern as well, and if the best player of the World cup winning team won't get this award then it is indeed pointless accolade.

That's why there's a best player of the WC award. Being the best player at one tournament doesn't make him the best player for the year
We have CL best player award, player of the season in loliga, Bundesloliga etc... The most important trophy is arguably World cup and considering his succces with Bayern, overall contribution to the both teams, I have no doubts who was the better of the two.

This is individual award, you can win shit and still be the best if your individual skills and records are better then others. Germans won WC but no one stood out.

Just because there are other awards it doesn't mean this one ignores others competitions.

You have to look overall. And overall Muller simply wasn't the best.

I think Henrik Larsen deserved Ballon D'or in 1992. Topscorer for the European Champions as well as being a dominant player for Serie B side AC Pisa.
