Well, that makes no sense at all. I'm not really a Marotta fan either. He's a decent director, but nothing special. Sabatini is much the same. Decent, but not all that special.

It sounds like you're already going down on Sab, and he's the Roma director. :boh:
I agree with you. Neither of them is anything special. Btw, my post wasn't directed at you, but rather to those who fap incessantly to either director.

So what exactly has Roma won since Sabatini has been there? Nothing... What did Lazio and Palermo do with Sabatini? Nothing. Lazio won the CI the year before and the year after Sabatini was there. The guy has not won a thing while Director of Football Operations at any club. I'd hold before praising him too much. Let's see how Roma does while trying to compete on three fronts.
The question was never who won the most, the question is who has been more successful in acquiring talents and players. Winning has other variables to it. But finding incredible talent the way Sabatini has done is amazing. Saying this doesn't take away from Marotta or diminish what he has done, but I believe Sabatini has managed to find more talent. Barcelona and Real Madrid have won more than us but it is not like their signings are sophisticated or make their sporting directors better than Marotta for managing to win more.

Sabatini :tuttosport:

Baldini :tuttosport:

Roma :tuttosport:

Totti :tuttosport:

Roma's Mercato :tuttosport:

Who cares if Marotta increased the club's assets by about 120M+ just by finding Vidal and Pogba? Roma is going to win CL with Destro at striker :tuttosport:
Who cares that Sabatini has increased Roma's assets through shrewd signings like Pjanic, Lamela, Marquinhos, Benatia, Strootman worth god knows how much now. All while having great prospects like Nainggolan, Ljajic, Florenzi, Iturbe and Destro on the bench that could either be sold for great money or grow into something good. Compared to us who time after time sign players only for their value to plummet down to almost nothing after a year or two. Roma even had guys like Borini and Osvaldo around who they managed to sell. When was the last time we sold a player for a profit?

And this is not taking away from Marotta or anything, he has also had his great moments.. its just that Sabatini has done a better job with somehow bringing in players that become very valuable and constantly managing to replace them year after year all while working on a smaller budget than us and with a less prestigious club.

Sabatini signs more fashionable players, but that's natural because Roma always had those, that's part of their club. Nice, shiny second best.
So now we're calling good, valuable players 'fashionable'? Doesn't every club want fashionable players, especially when they seem to have the eyes of all the top clubs after them? Give me the fashionable players Sabatini manages to find instead of the non fashionable failures that we so often seem to attract.

What is so wrong with looking at the results, seeing all the great prospects he has managed to bring and say, 'hey, that man did great'?

'cause that would mean those broken records have to re-evaluate their opinion and that ain't working for the pig-headed.

What is fashionable players supposed to mean?

Roma has a solid lineup with solid players, a lot of them with potential to be world class.

I get if you are not too impressed with Sabatini in Lazio or Palermo days (though got Cavani for latter), but at Roma has done a tremendous job of improving them with quality upstarts at every part of the team (worse going with defenders though, besides Benatia and Marquinhos, both great signings), Roma's goals are quite different from ours so its bit easier work inviroment for a GM, but it shouldnt take much to applaude the splendid job he has done there. Unlike mofos like Baldini who has had big time reputation, for IMO doing fvck all for ages.

P.S Suns, Florenzi is a youth product, not a purchase by their GM.

what is the point when you cant keep those players.

also don't act like they are porto where the find talents for pennies and then turn them into 30 million plus players. they spent a lot on lamela, iturbe, nannigolan..etc.

people here are/were flipping shit over signing "raw unproven kids" for 20 million+, yet here you are praising Roma for signing fucking Lamela who was 19 only and played in shitty Argentine league for 20 million.

yeah big whoop

2 years ago Borriello was like our 4th choice striker and we won the Scudetto. People were killing Marotta for that without hesitation even though Borriello barely affected us.

Now Roma made the CL and he's their 2nd choice #9 after Destro. :howler:

It's easy to take your time and find nice players here and there when you have nothing to compete for. They can buy lots of young players and test them out in Serie A. They're not expected to win the league or even get to CL really.

Sabatini is a good manager, of course, but now we'll see what he's made of when they have to play CL and Serie A at the same time and expectations are higher. Maybe their obvious weaknesses which everyone here ignores will manifest themselves under heightened pressure.

Weaknesses being no keeper, no striker and 33 year old fullbacks.

I mean, 4 of their 5 new additions who are expected to help the team the most this year are Cole (33), Keita (34), Astori (27), Emanuelson (28). All of a sudden when Sabatini has to build an actual bench (which Marotta has to do every year), you start to see some underwhelming signings.
