There is so much BS from the media etc. Every day they say - done deal. Every reputable contact has said no deal, no negotiations etc. Sure they may be bluffing but this is how I think its happening in reality:
1) Pogba is happy at Juventus but he would be "open" to a move to United if Juventus accept the right offer.
2) Marotta won't accept the offer unless he feels he can improve the overall squad with the money and profits we generate from selling Pogba.
So for instance, perhaps Marotta doesn't want to pay Higuain's buy out clause in the event of a Pogba sale. But if ADL finally concedes and accepts a player + cash deal, Marotta may take the United offer more seriously.
Who knows. My guess is that Marotta won't do the deal with United unless he knows where to deploy the cash. You don't want to be in a situation where you receive 120m and then go out and start negotiations as the selling clubs will milk you. You don't want to take that risk.
Some may argue that we have already spent much of the Pogba money on Pjanic, Pjaca and wages for Benatia and Alves. But based on my calculations, so far once you consider profits from sales on Morata, wages and amortization saved etc - we are neutral in terms of expenses after the recent known transactions.
I would not be surprised if Pogba stays in the end.
The BOTTOM LINE here is: WE are holding all the cards here. I really don't think it would take much convincing at all for Pogba to stay. We may increase his wages (not to the same level as ManU), but enough to convince him to stay at least one more year.
