After more than a month of absence here's the new update for the Belgian league.
After 26 matchdays (8 to go) the situation is the following:
1 RSC Anderlecht 26 52
2 Standard 26 51
3 Club Brugge 26 50
4 Zulte Waregem 26 47
5 Genk 26 44
The Top-3 is again very close to each other.
Anderlecht lost surprisingly 3-0 to Sint-Truiden (known as a traditional Anderlecht-beater).
Club Brugge had a lot of luck in their 2-1 hard fought victory over Charleroi, including a goal of Javier Portillo (ex-Real and Fiorentina).
Standard failed to take the lead on sunday evening, they had a frustrating 0-0 on the field of Lokeren, who outplayed Club Brugge the week before.
It's very hard to say if the small teams get better or if the big teams get worse, anyway, the big guys have a surprisingly low amount of points.
Juve, for example, has 74 points after 29 matches.
-----------------
-Anderlecht's January signing Frutos (argentine tall striker) is a major succes for the moment. He's a real benefit for the whole team, and scores a lot. Some say he might be selected for the WC, as Figueroa is injured.
- Vincent Kompany's season is finished. He has had surgery in his shoulder in Lyon by the same surgeon who helped Trezeguet with the same problem. There have been talks between him and JM Aulas (O. Lyon chairman).
- Standard signed Jorge Costa (ex-Porto) in January. He's good but not international class anymore, IMO.
American DC Onyewu, on the other hand, seems to be fully back. A player to watch in the next WC.
- You might have noted the 4th place of Zulte-Waregem, a semi pro club that just promoted from 2nd division. They don't seem to choke. way to go guys!
Some big clubs (Auxerre & Dortmund) are interested in their big targetman: Ibrahim Salou.
- Beveren finished the partnership between the club and Jean-Marc Guillou, the guy who created the academy in Ivory Coast. Some of the country's greatest players passed through Beveren to get to the higher level, including Eboué, Yapi-Yapo, and Juve "target" Yaya Touré.
