What he meant was, that this is a man that have been arrested before and that the police know that he's apart of a certain environment. And this environment is very likely a neo-nazi one.

But how can you expect police to know that a neo-nazi, that probably was arrested for beating somebody up earlier, planned to blow up the government-buildings and shoot kids at a political summer camp?

Watching press conference now, and there's still alot of uncertainties. So we'll just have to wait and see, I guess, what the fuck this exactly was all about and who the hell the bomber/shooter really is.

I'm sorry, I didnt mean to be disrespectful if it seemed that way. I dont know what kind of background and environment they mean so I was just asking, but, for example, wouldnt they at least monitor purchases of explosives (or materials that can be used for explosives) by such people?

Well, these are probably home made bombs, and the ingredients required are probably put together by items and liquids or whatever (I dunno) that separately, isolated, is legal to purchase and no alarms should ring if people buy that stuff. You can't buy dynamite here, so either they smuggled the bombs or they made them. And I don't think the authorities are to blame for not finding out.

It's important to remember that Norway is the exact opposite of a police-state, it's a very free, liberal society based on a lot of trust. Sure, that could seem naive, but we have skilled policemen and military who take a lot of precautions all the time, but... some things you just can't prevent. This is an attack from nowhere, from a very unlikely source.

I'm really sorry for everything thats happening man, I really am. I live in Sweden which (as far as I know) is pretty similar in that way to Norway and I really like the system and the society, so its a terrible thing to happen, one of the places you would least expect it.

Not uncommon that these "Internet-Jihadists" shortly take credit when something like this happens. Makes them look even more pathetic.
