    An explosion in Oslo today has blown out most of the windows of the government building housing the Norwegian prime minister's office, according to a witness, Reuters reports.

    The news agency says several people have been injured

    Update at 9:44 a.m. ET: The Associated Press reports that an explosion has damaged buildings in downtown Oslo; offices are being evacuated.

    What is happening in the world these days, one would think people are more civilized by now, its 2011 for fucks sake. I hope human casualties are as few as possible.

    Explosion rocks central Oslo, Norway PM's office

    OSLO (Reuters) - A huge explosion damaged government buildings in central Oslo on Friday including Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's office, injuring several people, a Reuters witness said.

    The blast blew out most windows on the 17-storey building housing Stoltenberg's office, as well as nearby ministries including the oil ministry, which was on fire.

    Reuters correspondent Walter Gibbs said he counted at least eight injured people. The cause of the blast was unknown but the tangled wreckage of a car was outside one building. Police and fire officials declined comment on the cause.

    HUGE sound, I was in the Friday prayer at the minute it happened, we heard the explosion and thought it was thunder or something. Suddenly phones started ringing and my friends told me a bomb exploded. Hopefully I am fine and so are my near ones. According to first reports people started crying, windows/glass shattered everywhere. Total chaos in the City.

    I am home now, there are reports of another explosion. I'll keep you updated.

    The police in Oslo will be having a press conference 17:30 local time. Hopefully they can clear up what has been going on. But the press in Scandinavia seems certain it is a bomb. But a gas explosion can't be exclude.

    I just hope that the amount of casualties is low.

    Is this likely to be a belated response to the publishing of that Muhammad cartoon in a Norwegian paper a couple of years ago?

    Can't think of any other reason to target Norway.

    Could be, but latest newspaper to publish it was Dagbladet I think? They are unharmed.
