erm.. strange question to ask.. why not use the lastest version of both? Per destribution basis, Oracle is packaged to Red Hat so if you use something else, you can still install it but you have to look around for a special procedure for your distro.

Martin's right. Just get whatever's newest. Altough if it's a really old OS you're running, that's when you might have a problem.
