Juve net Ibrahimovic? Tuesday 31 August, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are reports in Holland on Tuesday that Juventus have signed Ajax ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Bianconeri have reportedly had a £10m bid accepted for the Swedish international striker.

The 23-year-old, who was also of interest to Roma, has been linked with the Turin giants for some time.

The Old Lady have apparently swooped in order to resolve their fourth striker problem after the sale of Marco Di Vaio.

Ibrahimovic, who will initially be an understudy to David Trezeguet, is understood to have signed a four-year contract.

Juventus have yet to confirm or deny the story.

Alessandro Del Piero will today undergo a number of tests after pulling out of an Azzurri training session.

The Juventus ace didn’t conclude yesterday’s session after he felt a slight twinge in his right calf.

Team doctor Enrico Castellacci said: "We’re are not too concerned right now but we will see how he is on Tuesday."

Ibrahimovic set to join Juventus
Tuesday, August 31, 2004 Posted: 1003 GMT (1803 HKT)

Ibrahimovic is set to leave Amsterdam for Turin.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- Swedish international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to join Italian Serie A side Juventus Turin from Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam on a four-year deal, Dutch media agency ANP reported.

Ajax chairman John Jaake said the clubs had almost finalized the deal, bar some some minor details, on transfer deadline day.

According to media reports Ajax will receive a 19-million-euro ($22.95 million) fee for the 22-year-old, who has scored 35 goals in 74 league appearances since he joined the Dutch club in 2001.

Ajax are negotiating with Roda JC Kerkrade over signing 20-year-old Arouna Kone to replace Ibrahimovic.

"Gli dà il benvenuto da Coverciano, dov'è in ritiro con la Nazionale, il capitano della Juventus, Alessandro Del Piero: "Ibrahimovic è un grande acquisto, non serve sottolinearlo. Le qualitá del giocatore si conoscono. Sono felice e niente affatto preoccupato per la concorrenza"."

Del Piero is already commenting the move, so I don't think something will go wrong.
