    Tonetto signs for Samp
    Tuesday 18 May, 2004

Max Tonetto will be playing for Sampdoria next season after he today completed his move from Lecce.

The midfielder, who has also had a spell at Milan in the past, has agreed a two-year deal with the Genoa based club.

The 30-year-old, who had been at the Via Del Mare outfit for the last four years, will be presented to the media in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Lecce have confirmed that they will not be taking part in the Intertoto Cup this summer.

The Giallorossi were eligible to enter the tournament in a bid to take part in next season’s UEFA Cup.

However, club President Rico Semeraro has ruled out the possibility that his team will enter the summer event.

"It is a decision that we took some time ago," said Semeraro. "It is more important for us to prepare as best we can for the new season.

"In order to play in the Intertoto Cup you need a big squad and we basically haven’t got that.

"Europe remains a dream for us but first we must confirm ourselves as a Serie A club. Then we’ll see."

    Birmingham Seal Heskey Signing

05/18/2004. Birmingham have sealed the signing of England striker Emile Heskey for an initial fee of £3.5m, which could rise to £6.25m.

Heskey, who celebrated his place in England's Euro 2004 squad yesterday, has signed a five-year contract with Steve Bruce's ambitious side.

The 26-year-old scored 60 goals in 277 appearances for Liverpool since joining for a club record £11m from Leicester in 2000.

Bruce said: "This is an absolutely fantastic signing for the club - I am really excited."

He added: "Emile is still only 26 years old, has 40 England caps to his name and will be representing his country at Euro 2004.

"To pull off a signing like this is quite remarkable and I am really excited to add Emile to the squad for next season.

"Hopefully, he will be the first of several high-profile signings that we will be making this summer."

Heskey scores once every full moon.
Heskey isn't a prolific goalscorer, we know that, but he works hard, plays for the team, and always gives his best. He's definitely not someone I would want to see playing for Juve, but we're talking about Birmingham City here.

    @Azzurri7: thanks :)
