Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco has confirmed that Olof Mellberg is on the verge of signing a pre-contract agreement to join the club in July, and also admits that Momo Sissoko could arrive this month.
Secco: Mellberg In July, Sissoko Maybe Now
Aston Villa defender Mellberg is out of contract at the end of the season, and his club have lost all hope of him staying at Villa Park.
Juventus have been heavily associated with the 30-year-old for several weeks now, and there were even reports that he may join the Bianconeri for a minimal fee this month.
However Secco has revealed that talks are at an advanced stage for the Swede to move on a 'Bosman’ in the summer.
"Mellberg is close to signing a preliminary agreement with Juventus,” said Secco.
"If everything goes well, the player will become a Juve player in July. There are still minor things left to discuss before he signs the preliminary agreement."
Meanwhile another player who Juventus have been strongly linked with, Momo Sissoko, could complete his expected move to the Stadio Olimpico within a matter of hours or days.
"He is a player that we are interested in," added Secco, whose work in the transfer market over the past 18 months has been less than impressive.
"And we haven't ruled out the possibility of him joining us in the winter transfer window. We will see."
Many Juve fans have been bitterly opposed to the proposed signing of the Malian international.
