As much as I admire Sissoko's style on the field and force. Zanetti is one of the best players ATM in his position, not only in Italy but Europe.

I totally agree with you but having cover is very important as well and seeing how we want to fight for the CL and Serie A next season Sissoko is a great addition to the team. Zanetti is a starter atm. no doubts about it.

Sissoko is also very young when compared to Zanetti so I think he will be mentored by him somewhat, as Nocerino is. Zanetti is also a good pro and will not mind being rotated or spending time on the bench inorder to keep every one happy and in top condition.

I think alot of people don't see the big picture with the purchase of sissoko. Not buying him because we have one player who is doing a great job would be foolish. Just imagine if god forbid Zanetti blew his knee out tomorrow? Juventus are a top team and need to have depth not just focus on one good starting 11. Look at Man Utd, Inter, Madrid ....

we've got Zanetti, Nocerino and Marchisio. that's plenty of depth. And the big picture is:

A) if we are going to get a DM, then let's get someone who is better than our DM. That would be Mascherano.....oh he also happens to be on the market.

B) we are lacking in other areas. we are covered in CM midfield. what we need is a winger/attacking midfielder and defenders. It makes no sense to spend money in an area you are strong in when you have weak points elsewher.

It just depends on how you look at it, taking into perspective different facts. Zanetti has been our most consistent performer and probably the most accurate passer of the regular starting 11. I don't know about the average ratings of the players in question, but who has been the best midfield organizer/all arounder/destroyer in Italy in this season? Has it been Cambiasso? Has it been Ambrosini or Gattuso? The latter isn't even an organizer... just a destroyer. De Rossi is really the only competition I see against Zanetti, but De Rossi hasn't been as good as our man this season.

In regards to this discussion outside of Italy, it's probably a little too complicated. Obviously Zanetti isn't as good as Essien, but do they perform the same tasks? I don't think so as Essien isn't a midfield organizer. The players that compare the most with Zanetti in the whole scheme of things are Albelda and Cambiasso, but of course there are other destroyers out there who are better than Zanetti. But the latter is more than just a destroyer, as we have seen this season. So this discussion is too complicated to break down.

I like him too and he has surely done a great job till now but IMO saying that he is one of the best in europe goes somehow far
In terms of Form..yes he is..but then so is Luis Fabiano..so its like they say..Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Sissoko may be 22 and CR seems to really rate him from his time in Valencia but his passing would have to drastically improve for him to be a decent alternative to our current squad/loaned players.

I can't believe this is where our January budget is going..

well i will never understand this interest, but we will wait and see.

About the zanetti discussion, tbh i always admired him. Since his Roma days but then he made the wrong decision and it almost killed his career.

Many people say that Cambiasso is one of the best in Europe atm and De Rossi is the best in serie A in regards to complete midfielders. He was certainly better than both this season and he is the top serie A midfielder in regards to consistency and imo if he stays injury free he will keep his form.

Sissoko: Juve deal nearly done Wednesday 9 January, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has confirmed that he is close to signing for Juventus.

The Mali international has repeatedly stressed his desire to join the Old Lady since falling out of favour at Anfield.

Sissoko was close to joining Juve last summer, but the Cadetti champions were put off by a £12m price tag, but now it seems a deal could be done.

“For the moment I am under contract with Liverpool, but I am expecting news in the next few days,” Sissoko told RMC.

“My agent is talking with Liverpool and Juventus to work out terms for my sale.

“All the journalists have been asking me if I have signed for Juventus – the truth is that nothing is complete yet, but negotiations are very close to a conclusion.

“From my point of view, I am very enthusiastic at the idea of playing for such a prestigious club and to have a fresh challenge to show my value.”

Why oh why... Momo is just like Nocerino in his playstyle. A beast on the pitch who needs to improve his passing. 15-20 mio € is WAY to much. Ranieri and Secco are idiots!

RAI reprting that Sissoko is expected to sign tomorrow on a loan basis till the end of the season. The Malian is now engaged in the African Nations Cup from Jan 20th till early February at the earliest, dependent on Mali results.

I've seen a lot of Liverpool matches that Sissoko has played in over the last 2 years. I would agree with the broad consensus viz:

1. He is a top class midfield enforcer

2. His passing ability is at best average.

Juventus should only sign him for a maximum fee of €10m in the summer. The bulk of the spend should be on Zapata, Van De Vaart and Huntelaar
