Olof Mellberg joins Juventus in Shocking Swap Deal!

It was announced earlier on Aston Villa's official website that a deal has been completed for Towering centreback Olof Mellberg to join Italian club Juventus on a 6 month loan deal, with French World Cup Winner David Trezeguet going the other way. It is rumored that Villa have an option to buy Trezeguet for a fee of 6.5 Million Pounds.
"After a tough few weeks of hard negotiations our brilliant Director Secco has finally sealed the deal. We feel we're getting the better side of the deal, but don't tell Aston Villa", joked Juventus Manager Claudio Ranieri.

Is that true on the bolded part ? :wth:
I wouldn't mind if we get Mellberg , but give Trez in the return is such an idiocy .

Just realized something wrong with that article , it was mentioned that "Olof Mellberg to join Italian club Juventus on a 6 month loan deal" what should we dealing with a loan deal , while he's expected to joins us for free in this summer ?

Calm down, it is a fake. :D Here is something real:

Juve close in on Mellberg
Saturday 26 January, 2008

Reports in Italy are suggesting that Juventus could complete the signing of Olof Mellberg on Monday.

Juve have been in talks with the defender for a Bosman transfer once his contract expires at Aston Villa in June.

However, a January defensive crisis in Turin has seen the Old Lady attempt to land the Swede immediately.

Talks between the two clubs have been taking place and it is understood that the Italian giants have made a £500,000 offer for the man who Villa would lose for nothing in six months time.

That fee is understood to be tempting enough for the Birmingham club to accept for the versatile defender.

Stories in Italy today claim that the 30-year-old will become an Old Lady player on Monday which would ease the club’s problems.

Juve have a shortage at the back after Giorgio Chiellini was sidelined with injury and youngster Domenico Criscito was allowed to join Genoa on loan.

The situation has got so bad that Jean-Alain Boumsong’s Lyon switch has been put on hold, while Juve have also been linked with Guglielmo Stendardo of Lazio and Roma’s Matteo Ferrari.

Juve make offer for Mellberg

January 26 2008

Martin O'Neill has confirmed Aston Villa have received an offer from Juventus for long-serving defender Olof Mellberg.

It could mean the Sweden international will play his last game for the midlands club in Saturday's home Premier League clash with Blackburn.

The Italian giants were initially thought to be happy for Mellberg to sign a pre-contract agreement and then link up with them when his current Villa deal expires in the summer.

But an injury crisis has prompted the Bianconeri to make an offer - believed to be around £500,000 - in the hope of Mellberg being allowed to leave now.

O'Neill is planning to speak with the player after the Rovers clash and is expected to reveal whether a deal has gone through for the 30-year-old on Monday.

The Villans boss said: "Olof is keeping me in the picture. I have absolute trust in him. I know what is happening. After the weekend we will have a look at some things.

"Juventus have put an offer to us although I haven't seen it yet. I have been told about it. That is a natural thing for them to do if they want to sign someone and want to have him in January instead of the end of the season.

"If Olof chooses to go to Juventus in the summer, and is in the form he has shown me so far when playing this season, then great.

"I'll let you know what is happening on Monday. I want to get the Blackburn game, which is really important, out of the way. I'll have a better picture on Monday. He is available to play on Saturday."

Mellberg joined Villa from Racing Santander during the summer of 2001 and has operated mainly as a central defender, but this season a lack of right-backs at the club has led to him switching roles.

O'Neill has been linked with Tottenham's Pascal Chimbonda and Rangers' Alan Hutton as possible replacements.

But he said: "If you are asking me if we have bid for the players that you are thinking about and have in your mind, then absolutely not."

Transfer speculation: Olof Mellberg to Juventus (Nominal)

Olof Mellberg is out of contract in July and The Sun (26.01.2008) sees his future in Serie A at Juventus. Whether Mellberg wants to sit on Juventus' bench is unknown, but even at Villa he has been shunted across to full-back and probably does not have a long future as a regular first-teamer as Villa have been looking at a number of full-backs in recent months.

The Sun even go as far as to say that today's league game with Blackburn will be his last game - that seems doubtful. Villa have a small squad and unless Martin O'Neill is looking to reduce the wage bill for new recruits there seems to be little to be gained in losing his experience before the summer, for what is likely to be a nominal fee.

Mellberg has played 27 games this season and 252 in total since joining for £5m in 2001, and at 30 he still has a few seasons ahead of him. Mellberg may have no significant future at Villa, but there seems to be little to gained by releasing him now - unless O'Neill feels that Mellberg's service deserves such a nice move towards the end of his career.

It seems the guy has already said bye to his fans there....

Unless Secco does something abnormal, the man will be between us soon...
