I don't think it was just Secco - I think it was the board's eagerness to sell players that are necessary to Juve being competitive in serie A. Trez and Balza are just two so far, but the mercato has only just begun. I think DD wanted a competitive team to consolidate in serie A and to have a go for a place in a European competition for the following season. The board did not. They don't see players: they only see Euros!

Deschamps Not Bitter Against Juventus

Former Juventus coach Didier Deschamps praised his old team's start to the season, which sees them already fighting for the league title in their first year back in Serie A.

Deschamps believes that the Bianconeri were already competitive enough last season thanks to the determination shown by the squad.

"Already last year, the team was ready to play in Serie A with all the champions that had remained, even though many had left," declared the currently unemployed Frenchman.

"I think that at Juve the mentality is quite a particular thing, the winning mentality," he continued.

"The players always had it, still have it and will always have it."

Deschamps denied that he is bitter over the way he was shown the door by the Juventus directors last season.

"I am not bitter, but I'm disappointed obviously," admitted Deschamps.

"When you finish like that, it's normal. It's also my fault.

"Even I have a great responsibility, the fact that I am still young and a bit too rigid; I must improve under that profile and be more flexible.

"However, I must say yes: under the human level I was disappointed."

Deschamps backs ‘hungry’ Juve

Wednesday 21 November, 2007
Former Juventus Coach Didier Deschamps has backed the Old Lady as Scudetto challengers and discussed his exit last summer.

The French tactician guided the Old Lady back to Serie A from the Cadetti, but he left Turin on a sour note after relations with the board became untenable.

“Was I angry at leaving? No as I had done what I had to do,” Deschamps told Sky Sport Italia.

“I was disappointed, but that’s normal when you leave somewhere. I was at fault too. I need to become more flexible as I am only young and a little too rigid.”

It seems that there are no hard feelings on the former midfielder’s part as he is impressed with Claudio Ranieri’s team and hopes they can continue to assert themselves.

“Juve are contenders and they have already shown it with the results they have picked up at the start of the season,” he insisted.

“I think that the Bianconeri have a unique mentality – a winning mentality that they have always had.

“You can win games without being the strongest side on paper as a hunger for victory can compensate for tactical and technical weaknesses.

“Juve have quality, but it’s the mindset that can make the difference in tough times.

“For the players and the fans I hope that Juve return to the European stage because this is a club built to win. Everyone there wants to see the return of a victorious Juve.”

Deschamps also paid tribute to former teammate and last season’s star man Alessandro Del Piero.

“Del Piero has given so much to the club,” he said. “Last year he was extraordinary and he hit so many goals. He isn’t 25 any longer, but Del Piero will always be 25 and he’s loved so much despite his criticism.”

The ex-Monaco man concluded the interview by revealing his desire to get back into the game.

“I will return to coaching next season if not before,” he declared.

I hope he returns as our Coach once he matures. I´ll always have that season in nice memories, even though we played in Serie B.

We were also playing better than nowadays.....

This is most true :agree:

Like I said a few months ago when DD "left" and "failed replacement head coach of the future" ranieri was brought in soon thereafter -- he is going to be an interim coach. Nothing more and nothing less. We all know that our board has fucked up on everything from signing new talent to bring them to turin all the way up to our coaching ranks. Ranieri is not the man and he never was nor will be -- at least not for juventus.

For what its worth bring back DD

DD is right about the winning spirit. Inter can bitch about suspected referee payouts and the like (as if they are wholly innocent of any wrong doing, like forged passports and money laundering, etc.), but when you come down to it -- it's Juve's winning spirit that often makes them overachieve. Something Inter knows little about. (And even Milan these days, unless they can be bothered to be motivated by something other than the Champions League.)
