Trott's initial good form inflated his actual ability a lot TBH. He went through a purple patch, then got brought down to ground. While Cook will most certainly turn this around, i don't see that happening with Trott. He's a good player, but his glaring weakness to the in-swinging delivery is something that the opposition has, and will continue to use to their advantage.

tbh i find it disappointing that bowling gets destroyed like this very regularly nowadays. its become a batsmans game. odis are more or less like t20s.

miss the days when bowling attacks use to terrorize teams.

Well that was a fairly concerning start to a series in which I'm really hoping Australia bat better than they did in the summer, so that we might see a genuinely competitive series - or at least see England forced to play something like their best to win.

At least Australia dug in and managed to bat out the day, which should leave them less time to bat in the second innings to save a draw, should it come to that.

Hope someone gave Watson and Warner a slap for the way they got themselves out, especially Watson. Bailey seemed absolutely desperate to nick something given how he kept wafting unnecessarily outside off-stump.

Still, just the first day, so even if the signs ain't encouraging, I won't give up on the possibility of Australia doing enough to make the serie interesting just yet.

Can see both team finding it pretty hard to score big totals going by the first couple of days.

With the two sides having played against each other so much recently, the bowling plans for each side are now so well developed that whatever weaknesses a batsman has are likely to be exploited time and again.

And rather than see batsmen improve technique and overcome whatever issue, you are seeing that certain bowlers are now well and truly inside the heads of certain batsmen and that is only making the siutation worse.

England seem to have these big collapses in them, most series, but then come back and have even won games.

Still, absolutely laughable. It's why I don't get too excited about chasing 'only' late 200s, you can't judge a total until both teams have had an innings.

I played for the city schools team, but have only had a knock around since then. It's more fun to play than watch, I suppose the English equivalent to baseball in that sense.

when i was watching some sport on TV (cant remember which ) i heard that the equipment is very expensive. i thought its cricket and that the hammers are expensive. i probably confused more than 2 sports here

Seen a few catches like that lately - albeit generally with someone beyond the boundary pushing/throwing to someone inside the rope.

Guess it's something people will have started practising given how much emphasis is put on fielding these days.

Test cricket is such a beautiful format, they need to ban all 20-20 leagues or the ODI format to have more tests.

Only problem is that we are just coming off a Test that pretty much everyone knew was going to be a draw before the end of the second day.

Ain't a great advert for Test cricket when you have three days of people just having to go through the motions.
