Actually, this explanation Cannavaro did on his exit is nothing but bull crap.

Look at this:

“I’ve not jumped ship,” he stated on Saturday. “Unfortunately, I made a decision and at the age of 33 I can still win great honours.

Then this:

“The scandal has forced a great side to break up and this is sad.”

It is a little contradictory when you look at it. Let's see, you are the captain of the winning World Cup squad, and arguably were the best player in the tournament, and hands down the best central defender in the world. How much honor could you possibly want??

Then again.................since he IS as good as advertised, what would be his motivation to stay with a Serie B club? What if, by chance, it does in fact take 2 years for them to be promoted to Serie A?? He'll be 35 by then, and his window of opportunity will be practically slammed shut.

You have to look at it from both sides with some of these players who are leaving.

Not to sound overly critical of some of the posters in here, but it seems the majority of people are looking at this with Black-and-White colored glasses on.

People, its going to take at LEAST 3 years before Juve can even think about contending for a Champions League seeding, or even a Uefa Cup. How old are all of these players going to be?? They will all be into their 30's, and then we would be stuck in the same rut again, with having an old team at our disposal, and relying on mercenaries to fill in the gaps.

No, No, NOOOOOOOO Thank You. I don't want to see this team travel down that road again.

I would be far more upset if these players that were leaving were 10 years younger.

Changing my username to this one was a stroke of brilliance. I'll take rep points any way I can get them.

Do you know that I actually called Pado for his permission to change my name? He couldn't stop laughing when I told him what it was going to be. :D

Well, I don't know about others, but I criticize him because he claimed he would stay with us even if we're relegated...

I didn't insult Thuram and I won't criticize Trezeguet because they hadn't said once that they'll keep playing for the club even in dark times...

He should be a man to keep his words, and not being another Capello...

Andy, What do you have to say about Cannavaro's latest remarks regarding why he left Juve?

    This will be interesting...

Note: Cannavaro has always been one of my fav players and still remains so.

+rep Sergio! As i said to Rob,this whole relegation saga is a blessing in disguise as it forces Juve to rid themselves of astronomical wages & give more attention to the youngsters.Too many times have we seen young & talented players go out on loan, never to be seen again.

I would much rather have an "ordinary" player like Enzo Maresca marshalling our midfield knowing full well that he wears the Juve jersey with pride & passion as apposed to that "galactico Emerson. It might seem all dark & gloomy now,but wait until the youngsters develop & grow with confidence.Essentially the only player that i really wanted to stay is DP as he is our captain, living legend & a prime example to young aspiaring footballers.

Well, no one ever stated that Cannavaro was a man of his word, or that his actions in both the past and present tense would lead you to believe that he is of high moral fiber.

Trezeguet, on the other hand, I would honestly have more respect for if he decided to leave, considering that there was a pretty dark period a couple of years ago when he was being roasted by the media, and being preceived as strictly a one-dimensional player. Well, his job is to score goals, and he does it as well as anyone.

I honestly don't think we would have afforded those wages & even if we did logic dictates that taking the whole team down to Serie B is surely an overkill. And as Sergio put it we don't need all these 30 something fellas who have been miserable in the CL for the past 2 seasons.
What I don't understand is the hatred towards the players for leaving? Frustration & anger yes I undrstand but all these hostility! :disagree:

Well considering that Juve are backed by the FIAT group & that Juve are the most popular team in Italy,it is possible.Juve are probably still gonna get a good tv package as now more ppl (incl all other rival fans) will wanna follow Juve's progress in Serie B whether its good or not.

Those players have every right to leave as their hard work was wasted over a 2 year period,so i can understand.

Do you honestly believe FIAT will suddenly pump in millions to rescue Juve? As for the TV package it's touch and go, I don't think we will get a lot of money from that angle seeing as the rules have been overhauled to favour the small clubs.
Aw shucks we are a small club :D

FIAT are in no finacial position to give any help to Juve, even if they wanted to. The Agnelli's were always clear that - as much as they loved and were passionate about the club - Juve had to operate independently to any of their bussiness interests.

Cannavaro explains Juve exit Saturday 22 July, 2006

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro has bid farewell to Juventus, but insists he hasn’t left a sinking ship.

The Italian international joined Real Madrid in the week with Emerson in a deal worth around £16m, but the World Cup winner argues he hasn’t turned his back on the recently demoted club.

“I’ve not jumped ship,” he stated on Saturday. “Unfortunately, I made a decision and at the age of 33 I can still win great honours.

“Juventus understood my situation and showed themselves to be special. I think this is the best solution for all those involved.

“I would never have left Juventus if the current situation hadn’t have arrived. My family were happy in Turin, the club gave us all that we needed and the fans were exceptional.

“It’s sad that I’ve left a club just as important as Real in the shape of Juventus, a club who have given me so much and where I spent some fantastic years.

“I really want to salute the fans who were splendid towards me and showed me great affection.”

New Juve boss Didier Deschamps has revealed his disappointment at losing the former Inter man, but the stopper insists the lure of top-level football was just too difficult to resist.

“It’s an honour to wear the Real Madrid shirt,” he added. “Real chased me and forcefully wanted me.

“I’m happy because at the age of 33 I have still been given the possibility to play at the highest levels for this prestigious club.

“I don’t know what to expect. I’ll need a bit of time to get used to the championship, but playing with Real will be great.

“I still haven’t spoken to boss Fabio Capello, but I’m sure there will be time to do that.”

Cannavaro, who will officially sign on Monday, will also come up against Gianluca Zambrotta and Lilian Thuram on October 22 when Real take on Barcelona.

“It will be strange, but this shows that Juventus were a great side, made up of many champions in all departments,” he added. “The scandal has forced a great side to break up and this is sad.”

Zambrotta and Thuram joined the Nou Camp outfit on Friday in a combined deal worth around £13m.
