Buffon
Zambrotta - Panucci - Chiellini - Grosso
Aquilani - De Rossi - Ambrosini
Camoranesi - Cassano
Toni
You're right... this is what should be played... however, I have a feeling Aquilani won't start, and we'll get something like this:
Buffon
Zambrotta - Panucci - Chiellini - Grosso
Camoranesi - De Rossi - Ambrosini - Perrotta
Toni - Cassano

The red card was a bit harsh, but all things well considered I think you could defend the decision. Domenech is obviously dead wrong when he says it wasn't a penalty.

Actually, Michel said that if he wouldn't have given a straight red, it could have cost him the chance to officiate the final.

I'm not saying it was wrong, just that I think you could have defended the decision to give a yellow as well. Toni was not in a great position and two defenders were kind of catching up. Saying it's not a penalty is utter rubbish though.

Rules are rules, he prevented a clear one on one goalscoring opportunity and he had to go for that, he would have been a bad referee if he didn't give abidal the red card.
If I was abidal though I would have let toni through he most probably would have fluffed it.

Gattuso: I slapped Borriello Tuesday 17 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“(Morgan) De Sanctis and Borriello were pretending Holland were leading 2-0 and you cannot joke about that!

“Borriello made another joke that Marco Van Basten had scored with an overhead kick, so I slapped him.”

You just gotta love the bulldog, imagine Borriellos reaction afterwards

In all honesty, I don't know how Cassano has been better than Del Piero. I'm actually with Cassano starting alongside Alex. But lets be honest France were playing with one man down, plus Italy's system of play was different, when Del Piero was playing all he could receive was a package full of crosses, Cassano had better services last night, he was ok not impressive not that good.

It's unfair to say that he impressed more than Del Piero.
Exactly. Both have been mediocre, if not less.

Yeah. I just don't see how he was so great last night. Sure, he had some good touches and crosses but I don't understand why he was so great.
i seriously started laughing when you said he was mediocre. Cassano along with Pirlo are the main points of Italy's attack, they are great on the ball, have great vision and their distribution is awesome! He is a must starter and IMO would walk into most sides playing as a support striker. He has had his hicups during his career, i feel if Roma kept him he truly would have become a great! When legends like Roberto Baggio come out and say how good Cassano is, then you need sit up and take notice.

I never said he was a bad player, I am a Cassano fan. I know how great he is, I just stated that I didn't see what everyone else saw last night.

:agree: I don't have anything against him too, but did anyone see when he dribbled the ball outside of the field? It happens, but i'm sure DP would be criticised even for something like that:frown:

We Should Have Knocked Out Italy - Gullit

Former Dutch football star Ruud Gullit is worried that helping Italy to stay in the tournament with the win against Romania could come back to haunt them.

Ahead of yesterday night's exciting climax of the Group of Death involving Holland, Italy, France and Romania, many people who knew a little bit about the Dutch mentality ensured fearful Italian and French fans that their meaningless game against Romania would not be 'fixed'. As you'll know, if Holland, who had already won the group, had allowed Romania to win, both World Cup finalists would be out.

In the end, the Oranje did do their sporting duty and easily beat the Romanians 2-0, thereby allowing Italy, who beat France by the same score, to go through. One Dutchman who knows the Italians well, former AC Milan star Ruud Gullit, is somewhat worried that helping the Azzurri to stay in the tournament might turn out to be a mistake later on.

"I hope the win against Romania won't turn out to be a mistake later on," he said, "because having the possibility to eliminate both Italy and France was a great chance. Especially Italy.

"Italy can create problems at any moment, the fact they are still in the tournament could cause problems in the future. The Italians are like that: it seems like they are not playing that well, but with the first chance they get, they score. They are very good at taking advantage of every opportunity, and they have great experience. That's why I think they can still achieve a lot in this tournament."

Considering also that Italy started off with a humiliating 3-0 loss to the Dutch in their opening game, the Oranje might not fancy meeting a vengeful Azzurri team again in an eventual semifinal...

A little added bonus in defending too compared to pirlo, however we we will miss him sorely. That's why I think perrotta will start as he can work hard and hassle
