Who else can poach goals and get on the end of crosses?

he didnt do much of that in the World Cup. and today, he missed one of the best opportunities they had when he broke the offside trap only to shoot above the post. sure you can call it a difficult chance, but for a player who's scored so many goals for his club, and is playing as a lone striker, he shud've finished it.

it was that miss, and DP's missed and saved shot that cud've turned this match around!

I think Del Piero deployed on the left is where he should be, because even with Juventus he naturally favors roaming on the left flank. Many of times we've seen him take the ball along the left and own people, so it's not much different than a free role for him. He certainly will not be wasted on that left spot up top.

Now what might not work is something such as this:

... as Cassano and Alex are too similar and both prefer the left side of the pitch. But who knows, perhaps it could work out.

But Eazy, the Azzurri are not particularly suited to play the straight 4-4-2. Di Natale is not a left-winger, rather he is a left-forward who is not exactly a winger. Perhaps it wouldn't matter if he plays there at left-wing, but we also have to remember that Grosso will always be up the flank, so is Di Natale suited enough to cover for him? Italy, under Donadoni, has usually played with either a 4-3-3 or some sort of hybrid of that. So they are not necessarily used to that sort of direct formation.

Moreover, the midfield might be stretched because Pirlo himself roams around all over the place, hence why every time he plays he has Gattuso and either Ambrosini or Emerson next to him at Milan. Pirlo's influence could be hampered in the straight 4-4-2 because he will be forced to stay in position and not have as much freedom.

Pirlo is the key to the midfield, so I don't know if one would want to limit his freedom.

After watching the replay of the Ruud goal. It is CLEAR that Buffon pushed Panucci off to the ground when he got hit in the head. Making the goal legit.

Those two players are world class. The "Milan" midfield was pathetic. The reason why Milan was so bad this year was because their midfield could only stop 25% of attacks coming from the opposition.

As you saw today, that was the same in the Euros except that EVERY Dutch attack seemed to get through.

I agree with you man, Barzagli, Matrix and Di Natale should take the first flight back to Italy and never be called to the NT again, De Rossi should definitely start
