its been going on for years! not just in these Euro's. And its not only against Italy either, many countries are affected by controversial decisions.

this is just Riva trying to divert the players attention away from the media. He wants the Azzurri in the right frame of mind building up to what will be a very tough game against France. Riva has criticised FIFA and referees for ages now mate, but he knows theres no point just crying over it, because as long as there are no video refs, FIFA will continue fucking everybody over!

The thing is, it's not just against Italy. In all fairness they were never fucked over by the ref in 2006 and although they obviously deserved to win the WC, some teams really were kicked out by referees. One that comes to mind is the USA, who were unlucky to play against Ghana, because IMO FIFA wanted an African team to go through. Just like it might be a huge stimulus for Romania as a country, it was great news for the African continent back then.

As for these Euros, what bothers me most is the declarations made by the UEFA. After the Holland game they change the rule to save a referee's ass. After the Romania game, Del Piero's suddenly offside and active (what the hell?) and last but not least: they have to say Holland can field 11 substitutes and that that's just life. Obviously Holland can field 11 substitutes, but do you have to declare that and moreover the last part of the phrase is truly worrying: that's just life. It's like saying: tough break, you fucking Italians.

Oh, and Greece are out because of a refereeing error as well. Kudos UEFA.

A legitimate goal is a legitimate goal, we can't compensate it with the fact that Italy didn't play well.
I'm just putting myself in the position of the Italians and i realize that it's close to impossible to be sportive when your country is involved and, like in your case, it's easy to talk about sportmanship and other aspects of the game when your country isn't involved.

But the accent here is on "YOUR country", and that's why some of the reactions in this topic don't make sense.

What's the thing with your country or his country. If I support or cheer for the Italians it's up to me not to others to tell me what team I should or shouldn't support.

This tournament is called "EURO 2008" and since my homeland and country isn't in Euro, I think I have all the right to hope and cheer for a certain team to win it, that doesn't mean I prefer them over my homeland country which is a retarded argument IMO and being taken really far.


Alen, as for your post. I'm not Italian and I got pissed for the fact that Toni's goal was considered as an offside. I don't see anything wrong with that... though I'm not Italian, it's normal myself and some others to get pissed since they're Italian football fans.

The emphasis should be on 'The Team You Support'. and not 'Your Country'.If we're going to get into the 'your country' logic,then perhaps none of us should be supporting Juventus unless we're from Turin.If we can call an Italian club called Juventus 'our team' despite being Croats,Americans,Arabs and what not..why cant we call Italy 'our team' based on the same logic?

Hey, I only talk to Italians and read Italian media, so obviously I'm going to get hung up about it . But, contrary to what many believe, Italian media are NOT unsportsmanlike and are mostly blaming the Italian team. That's why I find it strange how foreign media are reporting that Italians are looking for conspiracy theories as they are simply not doing so. I find the discours used by foreign media and UEFA highly discouraging as it is downright racist towards Italians. No one is looking for excuses over here, yet everyone out of Italy says it's "always the same with Italians, always looking for excuses". To make matters even worse they are doing so when pointing to refereeing decisions is actually legitimate.

The goal should have stood, that's all UEFA need to say.

I'm not implying that I don't understand what you mean, just saying that it's a fine line indeed. Add to that the fact that EVERYONE I know in Belgium is either for or against Italy and I would say it's perfectly comprehensible to support the Azzurri and not in the least bit retarded.

Speaking with "we" is stupid even when you're talking about Juventus. We is the team, fans are not the team.
