ANd why wasn't he that confident before the match?
What does confidence have to do with anything ? He shouldn't be cocky before the match and underestimate Scotland or else he'll lose the game .
If anything one should boast after and not before the game . It's what makes football and sports in general beautiful . When you are victorious you celebrate , when you lose you accept defeat with grace . It's not a new concept .

Of course being humble is very important in life and probably one of the most respectable qualities , but you would have to be a robot for not to express your joy and boast about your team after 2 years of hard work .

My point is that he should not be cocky before and after the match.

Gattuso curses French progress

Gennaro Gattuso has just one cloud over his evening – helping France to reach Euro 2008 and eliminate his beloved Scotland.

“I am proud of the qualification we have achieved with this squad,” said the midfielder after Italy’s 2-1 win in Glasgow.

“But I am really annoyed because I know we also helped France to go through.”

Gattuso spent a year at Glasgow Rangers at the start of his career and married a local girl, but even stronger than his love for the country is his dislike of Les Bleus.

“Raymond Domenech is always being such a pain and he really did not deserve to reach the finals.

“Now I hope to meet France at Euro 2008 so we can teach them all a lesson.”

Here`s what Domenech said: “They won because my words motivated them,” smiled Domenech, who had suggested this week that Italy were 'draw specialists.’'

I just want to say that I survived the war on the couch. The game was not good though.
Neither, i thought the game was shithouse. Donadoni?? I found a good quote by Bearzot which said something like "Coaching is 90% luck and 10% is the skill of the coach, but without that 10% you cant succeed".. TBH i dont even think Donadoni has even 5% of that skill needed

Cannavaro - 6 Was really pulled apart at times, thank McFadden for being selfish & missing a sitter.
Zambrotta - 4 He was really bad. All of Scotlands attacks were based on his side.
Pirlo - 4 Where was he?
Gattusso - 4 Didn't even have the energy to argue with the ref today forget about playing football.
Ambrosini - 5,5 Average. The Scots were practically strolling the midfield.
Toni - 5,5 I know he scored a goal but a player with that height should not be jumping like a clown when all long balls were directed at him. Yes he ran a lot but like a headless chicken.
You should be so harsh on the Azzurri. They were better than that although they did have a weak patch of play after they conceded the goal. The scottish defensive was pure crap.

Commiserations to the Scots as they did deserve to qualify and sure as hell did not deserve to be decided by 1 of the most incompetent decisions I have seen in a long time

Chiellini as is his wont went in to charge a player down, some might say he used an elbow and he gets a free kick from it?

I see Juventus fans calling for Zanetti to be in the team and what exactly can he add to this team?

He is just like Ambrosini and Ambrosini is useless apart from ball winnning and heading of the ball so what would Zanetti add to this Italian team?

Camoranesi is supposed to be Juventus' most creative player at the moment and almost every time I have seen hom for Italy he has been annoying and everytime of the week , I would pick Perrotta.

He is not as skilful but he gives you loads of energy and off the ball running that Italians generally don't have

Iaquinta? I don't even know what to say about this guy. The fact that he is scoring in serieA says more about the current quality of serieA than his ability as a player.

Barzagli was possibly Italy's best player. I thought Zambrotta was good going forward. Panucci was surprisingly good.

gatusso got better in the second half. Toni played very well. Di Natale was in and out but it was still absolutely asinine to take him off and worse to bring on the clumsy Iaquinta.

Pirlo's free kicks are terrible as they seem to serve little purpose than hitting someone on the way. Too dependent on luck than technique

(Anyone see Riquleme's fantastic free kick against Bolivia today)

Italy has qualified and good for them but to me if they play Ambrosini, Gatusso and Pirlo in the midfield inthat competition they are cvoming home by the group stage.

I have always thought Italian coaches are defensive but this is the first time that I have seen the manager of the national side being incompetent.

Trapatoni was capable but too defensive. Sacchi was just insane and had mental problems but Donadoni is inept as a manager

From the squads he picks to the teams he picka to his formations, it is just a sign that this guy is clueless.

He made 2 substitutions because of 1 scottish player Hutton in Iaquinta and Chiellini and neither could combat Hutton just made Scotland more dangerous.

The linesmen were hopeless as Di Natale's gola was legal and Ferguson was offside and of course Chiellini fouls a player and gets a free kick from it.

For the sake of Italy though Donadoni has to go.

Amazing the euro 2008 would be grace by 3 dunderheads as managers in Donadoni, Domenech and Maclaren as the overrated Hiddink shows once again that when there is pressure he is just hopeless and some compare him to Mourinho (what a joke)

Raymond Domenech has taken the credit for Italy and France both reaching Euro 2008. “At least they were useful for once.”

The Bleus boss has made a habit of sniping comments towards the Azzurri, especially after the World Cup Final won on penalties in Germany.

Italy’s 2-1 victory in Scotland automatically qualified both Roberto Donadoni’s side and France for the tournament.

“They won because my words motivated them,” smiled Domenech, who had suggested this week that Italy were ‘draw specialists.’

“I didn’t see the game, as I prefer not to force myself to sit through too many ugly things. I feel both relieved and frustrated, as to be honest I would have preferred to play the last game in Ukraine with the need for a result.

“This is the strength of our squad, the ability to hold out under pressure, when we are afraid of elimination. I shall miss that sensation.”

If Italy had drawn in Glasgow, France simply needed to avoid defeat in Kiev on Wednesday evening, but now that tie and the Azzurri’s against the Faroe Islands only serve to decide which of the two teams top Group B.

“I am happy anyway, as if we are qualified today then it means that we deserved it,” concluded Domenech.

we're more than capable of winning on our own.

it sucks that it came down to a referee decision to turn the game around.
Well, there were a lot of sucky calls in this otherwise great game. The goal from Di Natale that was disallowed for some phantom offsides. The allowed Ferguson goal that was phantom onsides. This match was marred by bad refereeing decisions well before that moment.

Still, it was an exciting match where both teams really put their guts into it. And the better team rightfully won in the end.

First 25 minutes Italy were killing Scotland, If Di Natale's goal had stood it would have been a different story completely
