I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic.

Most Scottish fans are just idiots and accuse you of being unpatriotic if you don't think Scotland will beat everyone and anyone at least 5-0.

Scotland Will Fear Us Too - Donadoni

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni says it's Scotland who should fear Italy ahead of Saturday's much-anticipated clash, rather than the other way around.

It's just two days before Scotland-Italy, the most important match of the year for Italian football, and probably the match coach Roberto Donadoni has been waiting for the most.

Italy's participation to Euro 2008, and consequently Donadoni's job, is on the line in the Celtic Park match, but the coach sees calm and tried to intimidate the Scots somewhat ahead of the crunch game, just like they have been doing in recent days towards Italy.

"We respect them in the right measure, but it's the Scots who will have to be afraid," the former Milan winger said to Sky, "the prestige of our team is such that they will undoubtedly be apprehensive for this match. We will be playing with extreme concentration to reach our objective."

Asked whether he thought Georgia's victory over Scotland in the last qualifying match gave Italy a big hand towards achieving qualification, he said: "Luck is something you have to earn, and we don't fear anyone, even though we respect everyone."

I agree we can play two defensive minded midfielders but don't you think De Rossi would be the better option over Ambrosini? Our midfield against Georgia was not all that impressive and I really don't think we need to do a Milan midfield again. I think we should throw in De Rossi.
Di Natale might go MIA but I didn't think he was going to play well against Georgia considering his mom died a couple of days but when he does show up he scores and does very well. I would take that risk over all the other players we have on our bench.

De Rossi would be a better option than Ambrosini. About Di Natale, I would say Quagliarella goes more MIA than he does. For the front, I would go something like this (since Donadoni always changes the formations):

Oddo out for Scotland? Friday 16 November, 2007

Italy may have to do without Milan defender Massimo Oddo for their decisive Euro 2008 qualifier against Scotland tomorrow.

The Azzurri flew to Glasgow this morning needing just a point to secure a place in Austria and Switzerland.

While Roberto Donadoni was relieved to welcome back Gianluca Zambrotta from injury, he has been given a late headache as Oddo limped away from the final training session in Florence.

The ex-Lazio defender’s foot was stamped on near the end of the session and he was taken to hospital in pain.

The national side’s doctor Andrea Ferretti has ruled out a fracture, but Roma’s Christian Panucci is set to step in.

Donadoni could opt for a 4-4-2 system with Mauro Camoranesi behind Luca Toni and Antonio Di Natale or an attacking trident if Vincenzo Iaquinta gets the nod.

Italy will train at Hampden Park this evening ahead of tomorrow’s 5pm kick-off.




Probably not that big a loss for Italy.

Scotland will be playing a big, strong LM who would have been able dominate Oddo in the air. Panucci will stand better chance of stopping him.

Camo was sound he was already on the bus when i asked for his autograph, he wasnt too keen to sign for anyone but then when he saw that i was a juve fan he came right out and gave me his signature! Palla was cool he was on his own and looked kinda nervous being called up for the 1st time.

Buffon went past in a blur with people surrounding him, so i could get close to him. But i showed him my Juve pendant when he was sitting on the bus and i got a thumbs up! I couldnt even see Iaquinta, i dont know where he was.

Buffon: Iaquinta Could Be The Surprise Package

Gigi Buffon believes that Juventus team-mate Vincenzo Iaquinta could be the man to undo Scotland's planning in Saturday's all important clash at Hampden Park.

Scotland have been preparing meticulously in their bid to prevent Italy from playing their game before picking up the pieces, as the clock winds down towards Saturday afternoon's big game.

Under the circumstances, Vincenzo Iaquinta - who is expected to start on the bench - could prove to be the key, believes Buffon.

"Iaquinta is one of the most in-form players of Serie A at the moment," he said.

"I think he can make a big contribution on Saturday.

The Azzurri number one was full of praise for his opponents.

Like Red, I'm realistic. The chips are down. Italy always produces the goods when the chips are down. I love Scotland to win their games, but I'm feeling torn as they're playing against Juve players.

This would be the ideal for me! Dumbeneck's team to lose and for Scotland and Italy to share the points, both to go through and France to go out - especially as Dumbo has dumped Trez yet again. Oh yes - and he slagged both Italy and Scotland!

Weir: Italy The Best In The World

Veteran centre-back David Weir has described tomorrow’s opponents Italy as the 'best team in the world’ but says there is belief within the Scotland squad that they can win the game.

The 37-year-old Rangers man has been outstanding throughout the qualification campaign and will line up in defence at Hampden alongside Celtic star Stephen McManus.

"They're the best team in the world, it's as simple as that,” Weir told Sky Sports News.

"They're the world champions. We've got to counter that. We've got to be at our best to have any chance of getting something.

"We're looking forward to it. It's a massive game for the players, a massive game for the country. We're excited about it but there's also the realisation that we've got a job to do.”

Weir is the only player in the current set-up with experience of playing at a major championship. The ex-Everton player was in the Scotland squad who were knocked out in the group stages of France 98’.

“There's definitely a belief. I think we've given ourselves confidence with how the campaign has gone so far,” added Weir.

"But we also realise we've got to perform on the day.

"What's gone beforehand doesn't influence what's going to happen tomorrow. We realise we've got to go out tomorrow and put a performance in and work hard for each other."
