North Korea says conducted nuclear test

SEOUL (Reuters) -
North Korea carried out an underground nuclear test on Monday, North Korea's Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

"Our science research section has safely and successfully conducted an underground nuclear test on October 9," it said.

It added that there was no leak or danger from the test.

South Korea's presidential Blue House said a tremor had been detected in North Korea on Monday.

It said South Korea's Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources had detected a tremor of a magnitude 3.58 to 3.7 at 0135 GMT.

Officials in neighboring Japan and China had no immediate comment on the reports.

North Korea announced last week it would test a nuclear device saying its hand was forced by what it called U.S. threats of nuclear war and economic sanctions. But it said it would not be the first to use a nuclear weapon.

CNN is reporting South Korean scientists measured a 3.6 magnitude blast. US intelligence has not confirmed the event as of yet.

dont forget, out of the all countries that have nuclear capability, the U.S is the only country to have used it for terrorism. Why should they be allowed 2 still own nuclear weapons. as far as im concerned North korea is more dangerous than Iran.. Iran is a democratic state that cares for its people whereas North korea is a communist state that can do anything but care for its people...

North Korea are doing one heck of a thing, there would be lots of problems but no one would like to stop it more than the US. Obviously, Bush won't let this go by and he will ask everybody to stands against it and everybody will say Bush is right and it has to stop.

To koreans they think they're doing the right thing. But, IMO, people are having enough of Nuke arming and it has to stop. But it will never stop as long as some have that Nuke power whilst other does not.

And one more thing, the only people who have the right to protest against North Korea are the ones who doesn't have this power. In other words, The US have no right to intrude in this event.
