Schalke got an easy group while Dortmund qualified on goal difference due to an own goal they scored at the 88th minute against Marseilles, otherwise Napoli were through.

Except Bayern, Italy's and Germany's top 6 clubs are pretty comparable.
I'd argue Italy's stronger. German clubs are better prepared for both league and European games, though.

hmm 4 Bundesliga clubs, 4 English clubs, 3 Spanish clubs but 1 Serie A club in CL r16 and yet Bundesliga and La Liga are the jokes. I don't think I will ever understand the criteria of most SerieA fans about quality of leagues.
 this

Competitiveness and quality are different things. My comment was mainly addressing the lack of competition in the German league.
idk, bundesliga isn't that far off from seria a as far as having a pre-determined winner. we all know juve will win and it'll be the third time in the row. and bayern is the best club in the world right now, it's not bundesliga that can't compete, it's all of europe. dortmund is still a top team and will most likely go far in CL. a lot farther than any italian teams.

Juventus is in a much less dominant position than Bayern. As far as prestige, there will always be Milan and Inter to rival us while Bayern as no counterparts.

It's not like we can buy every player in Serie A if we want like Bayern does, otherwise we'd be signing players like Hamsik, Kovacic, De Sciglio, etc.

yeah, but my point is that it's not bundesliga that is allowing bayern to be so strong. it's the fact they're bayern. they bought one of barca's most promising players in thiago alcantara but everyone looks at gotze and lewa. they wanted to go to bayern since a long time ago from what it looks like.

they also got martinez, sought after by many others. players want to go there.

Saw this on an Arsenal forum.....
I don't see much difference between what Bayern are doing and what Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool and mainly United did.

I think it's better that you have a one team league with 4 CL spots so anyone can have a shot at becoming sustainable and successful rather than a set in stone top four that all massively out-finance all the other teams meaning they never get a look in.

One team is never untouchable. Bayern have been the biggest club in Germany forever and plenty of teams have toppled them over the years, even if they can't maintain it long term the way Bayern have. If a team manages to beat Madrid though, there's still a good chance they'll finish below Barcelona on 97 points.

Germany is doing great. I don't think any country is producing talent at the rate they are and Bayern can't have them all. Dortmund could maintain themselves as the second team in Germany, just like we maintained ourselves as the second team in England from around 1997-2004ish.

If you're going to sob for Dortmund losing top players like Lewa and Gotze to bigger teams, why not sob for Monchengladbach who had to lose their best player for his release clause to Dortmund at the start of last season? It's just the way shit goes.

the key imo is that Bayern has to be the best in the world, and Dortmund have to be able to beat the other European giants, that's one way to find Bayern's domination acceptable because they aren't just the best in Germany but in all of Europe also. it's similiar in EPL, United have been equally dominating as Bayern in the past 10 years but Liverpool and Chelsea have been regulars in the final stages of the CL, and have beaten other european heavyweights. If dortmund can do that as they are doing now, then no problems, otherwise there may be a problem.
