Italy have been very wasteful with their transfers as have England in recent years.

But when it comes to the valuation of Domestic players of both countries ,England's transfers blows outta the roof in comparison to Italy's domestic transfers.

Bundesliga is probably the only top league where there is fair valuation of their domestic as well as their foreign players(to an extent) even though nowadays the big PL and La Liga have made Bundesliga their new hunting ground hence the inflation.

Yeah, a shame. I don't remember now if it was injury or something else, but it just didn't work. He was a hell of a striker and everyone wanted him. We got him relatively cheaply, but he failed.

It was a bad transfer only in hindsight. From today's perspective, buying Salas for ~£8m (12m eur)+Kovacevic is like Marotta managing to buy Cavani for 12m euro+Quagliarella. Everyone will think it's a great transfer. Then Cavani fails royally and we consider it a terrible transfer.

Good comparison, I like it.

I like Cavani, not entirely convinced he could be as good as he is at Napoli. Dont under-estimate the work Lavezzi and Hamsik did for him.

Destro's deal is cash plus players and almost like separate deals, but the cash fee is €13m.

You'll see that none of the top 12 Italian transfers in Serie A happened in the last 5 years, in the PL the top 12 trend is pretty balanced but still headed towards current signings, aside from big fees being paid for proven top class English players (Rooney, Ferdinand) in the past. New players of that quality are not around or on the market, so a lot of money is being paid for relatively mediocre English players.

In the last 6 years there have only been 6 Italian players who have moved to Serie A teams for more than €15m cash, including Amauri. That's just under £12m. You couldn't get a 19-29 year old current England international with a contract of 2 years or more for that price anymore, they want £15m as standard just for a pretty good player. That's €19m, the price Inter paid for a 27 year old international striker who had scored 1 in 2 in the last 2.5 season.

I honestly would take €13m for Veratti and €14m for Borini than €19m for Ox and €20m for Henderson tbh..Just giving a little comparison of the valuation b/w some of the young players b/w both countries..You would have to wonder how much Wilshere would've been worth had he been playing for a mid-table English club.

lets not forget none of the Italian clubs would've paid such a price for either of them..These inflated figures have cropped up mostly because of the PSG's and the English clubs..

No idea where you get bitterness from in my post, I showed cold facts.

And of course it does matter whether transfers were 5, 10, 15 years ago, because we were talking about current players. You seem to be going off on a discussion of 'the PL is the same as Serie A was', which is not the discussion I was having.

I agree about Ox..I rate him very highly ,funnily enough 2 Arsenal players are perhaps the biggest hope for England.Maybe you can add Cleverly and Adam Johnson(unless he leaves City) to the mix too.But its still not enough imo if you want to compete with the best.The NT careers of England's 'Golden Generation' are slowly coming to a halt and other than that there isnt too much quality around.

Italy are in similar sort of situation though have much more quality than England.Some of Italy's young up and coming talents are definitely much much better than England's in my opinion.

Borini is good but he doesnt have any WC attributes in him.He works very hard though..And with Carlo mentoring Veratti(and since currently there is no competition in his position) he could possibly explode at PSG.

The time line is comparable. As thats when italian football had money flowing through the league, just as now in the Prem. I think its massively compatable !

What I think we should do in England, is have a limit on foreign players you can sign, like in Italy. Maybe even have a minimum British players to be on the pitch. Not enough are given a chance, and when 1 does get a chance, they get hyped up !
