Agree..There have been some foreign flop/Overpriced transfers as well from Serie A teams but definitely not as much as English teams..

Even with Carroll, Torres, Shevchenko, Crespo flops in England. I would say its quite even!
40 million for Mendieta.....!!!

Amauri was €22.3m, €7.5m of which was Nocerino in exchange.

I'm not talking about foreign players, because that's not part of the discussion. It was about overvaluing of domestic players.

Still €22.3m though mate !

English players do have a premium, as do Italian. Although is we looked at foreign players, Italy wins on stupidity !

I would say that Chelsea and Man City have completely distorted that list, due the owners they have, and the huge fee's only really started once Roman come to Chelsea.

take them 2 teams away from it, and you only really have Liverpool wasting money!

In Italy, it seems to have just been the norm, with all the top Italian Clubs.

Not really..I mean you look at some of United's transfers and they have been absolute goof ups..I havent even mentioned the overpaid transfers of United's English contingent..Phil Jones ,Ashley Young,Micheal Carrick who were all bought for laughable sums.

And in the late 90s-Early 00s it was only Lazio who were guilty of overpaying for some of their transfers who flopped hard and to an extent Inter though they were largely in the 30m and below region.Both Milan and Juventus largely got full value for the big money they paid for some of their players.

And pretty sure in the future we're not going to see many big transfers in Serie A whereas in the PL it has just has become a sort of an upward trend.

Been watching serie A for 20 years, believe me guys Italians are worse than the English when it comes to players transfers.

Atleast PL clubs started spending stupidly when the league got richer, Italians been wasteful both when they were rich and even now when they're poorer.

You mean the United players that have won them league titles ??

Carrick was £18 Millon, probably 3 or 4 million over priced.
Ashley young was 15 million, Villa's best player.

Phil Jones and Smalling will play for England for the next 10 years.

Smalling was a reasonable transfer..But in no way was Phil Jones..please..What did he do to attain the 20m+ price tag ?I am pretty sure i wont call him a value for money buy..Just yet..

Apologies i got the Ashley Young one wrong..Thought he was bought for 25.

And yeah some of their silly transfers they've made over the years have been covered up by them winning silverware but it still doesnt change the fact that they've wasted tonnes of money just like how Italian clubs have in the past,i can get you stat where it says United have spent just as much as City in the last few years,i'll search for it..

Chelsea and City seem to be building great squads and for the future we'll have to see if United will put up with them and continue to be competitive as ever in the coming years.

Ok yeah in recent years some of our transfers have been dismal..

IIRC bar Salas and Di Vaio all the other failed transfers have been 25m and under..(Even though it doesnt say much)

Carrick is not a flop, he is a mainstay of that team, from the last 5 years or whatever it is !

Phil Jones was not worth that money, maybe half. But that was his buy out clause. united paid it as Liverpoo,andn Arsenal were sniffing around, so had to buy him.

He is not a bad player, by all means. But he will many trophies. he is only a kid, over priced YES !

Again. Stephen Ireland was a make-weight in that deal, valued at £12 million (WOW). So they paid £14 Million + Ireland.

Still appauling. Milner is average!

I don't know how can one consider Kovacevic as a failed transfer. He was a player bought for the bench and he proved to be an excellent sub. The man scored 20 goals in his first season (11 in European competitions) and 6 goals in his second season where all of Trez, Del Piero and Inzaghi were ahead of him.
The only bad deal about this was getting rid of him in order to buy Salas.

Anyway, if you look at it that way, then you also need to look at Amauri's transfer like that and instead of 22.8 you should look at it as 12.8m+Nocerino+half of Lanzafame.

Also, United have spent that over 12 years, won about 7 titles, 5 cups and 1 Chamions League. City have spent the same over 2 seasons !!!

United paid for their big money signings through success on and off the pitch, city didnt!

Im saying Amauri's was a rip off, im not for 1 minute saying Milner and the like are NOT. My argument is that Italy is or has been as wastefull with money, as England clubs.

Well Fegie likes him, and when he has had a full season fit, United have been pretty dominant.

Carrick wont stand out in a Pirlo kind of way, Carrick is the water carrier of the team.

Yeah, a shame. I don't remember now if it was injury or something else, but it just didn't work. He was a hell of a striker and everyone wanted him. We got him relatively cheaply, but he failed.

It was a bad transfer only in hindsight. From today's perspective, buying Salas for ~£8m (12m eur)+Kovacevic is like Marotta managing to buy Cavani for 12m euro+Quagliarella. Everyone will think it's a great transfer. Then Cavani fails royally and we consider it a terrible transfer.
