inter might not be as bad as last year - that will be a hard feat to match - but their squad is weaker, so far. It all depends on if Stramaccioni can do what Ranieri and the others fail to do and motivate the team and sustain a harmonic dressing room with all its egos while fixing the psychological damage from last year. He might pull off a Conte/Pep, but chances are he won't.

Their squad is weaker but it is going to have fewer big egos.

That increases the chances of Stramaccioni being able to impose his style on the squad and not being prevented from working by senior players, like Gasperini at Inter or Villas Boas at Chelsea.

As is so often the case, despite the quality of many of the teams being questionable, there are a lot of teams shaping up in an interesting fashion for the coming Serie A season.

Juve, if the injury free season was a result of the physios' work, why can't it be repeated, especially with the added depth?

Because it's extraordinary that Juve didn't get more injuries just from collisions during games - something that is largely down to luck.

Muscle injuries can be limited by working well, but it will be harder for Juve to work on conditioning during the season due to playing more games, even with more depth.

They have a team that can cause problems, but what we did in the 2011/2012 was miraculous IMO. We stayed healthy, lucky we weren't playing additional games, etc etc. Something I don't think Inter can recreate.

They'll cause us problems in our derbies, though.

Inter's squad last year ended in 6th. Are they that much better with the additions of Palacio and Silvestre? That much better to end in a CL spot? They still have to make a few more signings, quality signings.

Also, there's some question marks. Can Milito and Palacio pull off another wonder season with getting 20+ goals? Are Cambiasso and Zanetti's legs going to last? Is Strama right the coach for them?

You're right that there are lots of uncertainties surrounding Inter, but as for Strama, I think he proved he's the right guy. Before he arrived, they were not far from the relegation places, no? He did some great things towards the end of their season, and frankly I expect that trend to continue.

I agree with you in thinking that they won't have the kind of season we had last season. That was something truly special. But I do predict that they will be up there.

Apart from Lúcio, they've not really lost anyone important have they? Forlán, Muntari, Pandev. JC has been replaced (almost), Maicon will need replacing.

A load of users here were slamming Marotta for last years work, you probably didn't read it going by your join date, but after failing to get Sánchez and Agüero, it was seen as a 'quantity' mercato. Juventus and Inter are in different positions now though. Inter still have to work with getting over Mourinho, getting rid of players on large salaries and bringing through a younger generation. It's taken Marotta almost two years to squeeze out all the players that Secco handed him, and it seems like finally this summer we'll see the end of that, can't have been easy.

I can't really argue with what they've done. Good Serie A players with some youngsters, they can build some stability around that and something to last longer. I don't know what else they'll do, such as replacing Maicon and purchasing Lucas, but it should be an quite encouraging start. Apart from extending Chivu's contract.

Not really, quite a few people here wanted Guarin in January. Juve don't need a keeper so buying handanovic wouldn't make sense but you'll definitely find it hard to find a keeper as good as him for that price.

Silvestre is a solid defender for an upper table club, but I generally agree with this post. None of the players they've signed are bad, and it seems like they have a lot more of a plan with this mercato than last year, which was supposed to be designed around a 3 man defense but had seemingly no support from upper management.

The only thing Juventus can do is be an example, with the way things are shaping up. I'm not sure how long that can last in the current state.
