where the fuck will draxler fit at arsenal? sometimes i think clubs buy these big names just for the sake of it rather than actually putting any thought behind it, like wise with mata to utd, their central midfield is fucking awful, no way will mata compensate the shitness cleverely and fletcher bring to midfield, carrick i appreciate has had a decent season when he is fit but i think he is part of the problem. If man utd had any sense they would have gone for someone like nainggolan instead. I just don't see the necessity in mata not when they have the likes of kagawa confined to the bench i really hope mata turns out to be an expensive flop like fellaini
Are you serious about Mata?

you do know he's played on the wing for most of his career, right? his competition are the likes of Valencia and Ashley Young, to which he is a massive upgrade. United have so many problems that one single signing no matter how good the player is, will not solve their problems. However one of their problems this season has been the lack of creativity, lack of players that create chances especially when Rooney is not playing, they've gone a long way solving that problem now. You can make a compelling argument that they needed an imposing central midfielder more, but this is the Jan transfer window, the right opportunity might not have presented itself, and you just don't miss out on a player like Mata, especially if you lack creative players.

They should have gone for Nainggolan instead? :howler: What a ridiculous thing to say, and way to overrate a glorified box to box midfielder. Roma is as good as it will get for Nainggolan, he has nowhere near the quality required to solve United's midfield problems. You just don't say things like they should have gone for Nainggolan instead of Mata, one is a top midfielder and one of the most talented players out there, and the other is nothing but a decent box to box midfielder.

they lack creativity because that is the moyes way of playing, not because the team actually lacks any, why do you think kagawa has been stuck on the bench all this time? why do you think moyes prefers valencia to nani? i'll tell you why, moyes is only interested in taking the lead and holding onto it like the tactical pussy that he is. all SAF has done the past few years is mask the real problem in their central midfield, it's only now moyes can't mask that so man utd's woes are there to show everyone. man utd over achieved in their last years under SAF, only goes to show what a great manager he is

as for nainggolan he would shit on any of the current man utd midfielders be is cleverely, carrick, even fellaini, and that is where the problem lies, sure you can say what you like about roma's midfield but i would say any one of their midfielders would walk into man utd's starting 11.

I agree about Moyes mentality, and how its hurt them, especially the bolded part. But I beg to differ about creative players, SAF didnt need them, because his style of play was more dependent on quick paced football, and speedy wingers were an important part of that, Moyes teams don't play with as much pace and urgency, he needs creative players to create chances, thats why he went for the likes of Herrera, Cesc and thiago in the summer, and thats why he bought Mata now.

Kagawa got plenty of opportunities both on the wing, and in his more preferred #10 role, he has been really poor whenever given a chance, so I'm completely with Moyes in not playing him. Nani is inconsistent, selfish ball hog, he hasn't developed that part of his game at all, even SAF benched the guy.

I don't think Nainggolan is better than Fellaini and Carrick at all. Sure he's playing better than the former this season, as Fellaini's been a complete flop at United. Fellaini at Everton was a really good player though, and a better player than Nainggolan.

Though obviously theres no argument that Strootman and De Rossi would walk straight into this United midfield, so could Pjanic probably.

Come on Badass, Nainggolan doesn't even come close to Carrick. He's a regular box to box mid that's just overly aggressive, never got what he big deal was about him. I'd prefer starting Marchisio over him, that's how good Nainggolan is. Like Fred said, Roma is the best he'll get.

Carrick or any other man utd midfielder provide 0 energy or steel.

Classic of fans of a certain league really, to overrate players of midtable teams. Whether they're Serie A, EPL or even La Liga fans.
Yes well ive heard how flamini is supposedly better than pogba. But you are missing my point here. You honestly think man utd have a decent midfield just because they have carrick? Whos overrating who now?

It's going to be funny watching Mata play an uber defense 4-4-1-1.:D

something i've been trying to highlight the last few posts
If they added nignuts to the midfield, they'd still have a creativity issue. So I think for United, atm, is an issue of convenience. Mata is available, very creative and versatile so probably won't have troubles fitting into the squad. Finding midfield partners for Carrick may take longer and can be scouted now and prioritized during the summer.
