It's a matter of getting world class players in, they know they probably wont get the real targets they want. At least it's a step in the right direction for the Moyes era of signing top quality players when they are available. Arsenal didn't need Ozil there were more important positions to fill and sigign him has shaped their season even if he really isn't as good as people make him out to be. They over-paid for Ozil but everyone at Arsenal was happy to see money spent on a player at Arsenal.
I agree with everything you said, except the bolded part.

Granted, he still has not even come close to justifying his price tag, he's been up and down so far at Arsenal, really hasn't found that consistency yet. However, anyone whose watched him over the last 3 seasons with Real, knows what he's capable of, I don't use the term world class very often, but Ozil was indeed world class for Real Madrid, he was one of the best attacking midfielders in the world in those 3 years. Obviously, he needs time to adapt to a completely new league, but as soon as he does that, I fully expect him to take the EPL by storm. Lets not forget that Silva in his first season with City, was not consistent either, but subsequently became one of the best players in the EPL, I think Ozil should be given time too.

Sky Sports are saying the last offer for Juan Mata is £40m (€48.8m).
Fvckin Chelsea man. What the hell are they doing? Trying to make United title contenders again?

Really stupid move by Chelsea, they're underestimating United very much. Sooner or later Moyes will adapt, he'll buy a midfielder, and shore up his defense, and then the whole EPL will be terrified by the attacking trio of Mata, Rooney and RVP.

I for one, rate Mata highly and don't understand Mourinho playing Oscar over him. In my book, Mata would walk into every EPL team's starting lineup.

They are making a mistake by going for these £40million+ players.

Some players available in the summer that would have helped them and would cost very little, Caulker, Strootman, McCarthy, Ericksen, Even Nigel DeJong.

Cabaye, and even Matic all better value.

Papering over the cracks with 1 or 2 HUGE signinsg, will not work.

Mata is a good player though, even if not worth that much he could really help them. Even if they probably don't need an attacking mid.
Indeed he is, but waiting till 6 / 7 months to sign a player, is bad. He could have improved the squad straight away, even with a couple of the ones i mentioned.

Mata would not exactly be the difference with the way they played last night.

Sitting back at 1-0 up, at home. Classic Moyes.

Cabaye will cost a lot of money, Newcastle will milk that transfer for all its worth.

I also don't agree with that logic. Buying quality players like Ozil and Mata represent more value than going for two or three decent players.

Lets not exaggerate here, Mata was benched for just half a season, just last season he was one of the best players in the EPL, he was also voted Chelsea's best player in the past two seasons. The guy is absolute quality, not many attacking midfielders in the EPL are better than him. The only issue, is that as a winger he needs to work a little harder, in the English game he's more suited to playing behind a lone striker where he doesnt have to defend as much. Still, I think him with Rooney and RVP is a deadly trio.

So you think United can afford to field all three at the same time? How would they line up?

No doubt about that. If they manage to sort out their middle they are going to be scary again.

But still, Moyes with this Manchester looks rather unstable and they are yet far from being the team they were under Ferguson. I guess he needs more time but more importantly -- new investments. Their defense and midfield is pretty average at this point.

I think what they're going to do, is play Mata on one of the wings(probably the left) and risk the fact that he will probably not work that hard defensively, hence the risk of that wing being exposed is quite big, but they'll probably get the CM whoever it is(Cleverly, Jones) to try and cover defensively. I think the creativity Mata will add offensively makes it a positive tradeoff for United.

Completely agree, they need to invest in their midfield and defense too.

But creativity in midfield was one of their most pressing problems, along with their shaky defense. They've solved one major problem now.

So you think Rooney, RvP, then Mata as a kind of 'central winger', then two real CMs. What about the third midfield option, someone sat wider?
Posted this in the EPL thread, but will post it again. This is what I think would be the ideal formation to try and get the best out of all their players

--------------De Gea--------------------
Rafael-----Jones-----Vidic--------Evra----
----------------Carrick----------------
----------Fellaini--------Fletcher-------
----------------Mata-----------------
--------Rooney---------RVP----------

You may be right mate, I just think they could and should have made signings at the start of the season. That would have given them a better chance, and would not be sat 5 points off 6th place.

Vidic is as good as gone, so they will need to replace him. That line up just shows how shit that defense is, especially without Vidic. Also, Carrick and Fletcher :inter:
