Roma currently negotiating for Eto'o. They want to break the bank.

Pretty scary shit if they sign him and keep Lamela.
They won't sign him unless they can afford to give him 20m season

Not sure why you would say that about Coentrão when Mourinho often chose for him instead of Marcelo when facing big clubs.
He's a very good footballer but not a defender, he isn't looking to defend, it's the same as Walker on the other side. He'd rather play as a winger, and rely on pace to get himself out of trouble. Coentrão has a bit more than that to him as a defender, but you see my point.

Saying someone is preferred to Marcelo is not really an endorsement of their defensive ability, that guy is even more biased as an attacker, and also hot headed.

What I'm saying is even in modern football you rarely see top teams playing with such biased attacking fullbacks, which is why I don't think Spurs would play like that, or if they did, why they wouldn't win anything.

Probably wouldn't surprise me if he did, because he also used Bosingwa with Cole a lot in that disaster season, as well as Ivanovic, and he used Rose against Palace, who is another player relying exclusively on pace to get himself out of trouble.

CL winner Bayern: Lahm - Alaba
CL finalist Dortmund: Piszcek - Schmelzer
PD winner Barcelona: Alves - Alba
CC winner Brazil: Alves - Marcelo

It happens, but I'd agree that it doesn't happen too often although that might change with the lack of quality FB's. Full backs still have a huge defensive contribution to make but I think most of them are so fast that they can cover. It might look uncontrolled but I wouldn't really see most of the attacking FB's as defensive liabilities (bar Schmelzer maybe)

The first two are balanced pairs, not biased for attacking. Obviously Barcelona/Brazil have a slightly different style, the fullbacks are essentially wingers and are protected in a different sense.

My ideal fullback is a Lahm, Cole, Zambrotta or Evra at their peak. Alaba is heading in that direction as well, he's not dumb. Dani Alves is a disgustingly bad defender, in contrast.

Others essentially like wingers at fullback. Unless you have a super talented team with a lot of possession (important to not expose the defence as much) then I'd only go with that sort of player as a wing back. For example I think Coentrão or Walker could be excellent attacking alternatives in our system.

Maicon used to be amazing.
