yet the club is not concerned with whether the player looks like basque or possesses some unknown basque qualities (the white supremacist you brought up), but whether he's connected with the region the club is representing, there's a difference. it's not like they measure their skull and whatnot before signing the contract.
Basques are pushing hard for independence from the late 19th century. They are ethnic group but are generally perceived as nationalists because of their claims. White supremacy you mentioned has nothing to do with it.
