roma is so obsessed with mediocre wingers.
They sold their most productive player of the last 2.5 seasons in Gervinho. Even if he was inconsistent... But here's a very telling fact I found on a Roma forum:

Here’s a fun little fact:

Roma has only won one game this year (all comps) without Gervinho. That was the first game of the season.

With Gervinho: 15 games.
9 wins, 4 ties, 2 losses. 37 goals scored in these games. Held scoreless once (Inter).

Without Gervinho: 11 games
1 win, 6 ties, 4 losses. 9 goals scored in these games. Held scoreless 5 times.

*Gervinho played 30 minutes or less in two games this season: the loss to Sampdoria and the tie against Torino. These games aren’t counted – I’ll let you decide which column they belong in.
1 win from all competitions in 11 matches without Gervinho.

gervinho isn't a top player, but he is way better than those players roma brings in as replacement. selling him makes no sense.

maybe FFP problems? :boh: let's try for pjanic. €15m :beppe:

Ok at first the fapping to Sabatini was overboard but I have to admit he did make some good signings. I could see why some people liked their mercatos. Fapping to it was too much but they were on a good path.

Nowadays though I have no idea what they are doing. Every transfer is a trainwreck.

Actually, I don't mind the El Sha move. The rest are terrible. Perrotti, Falque, Salah, Dzeko are all cack.
They have turned into another Milan, signing flair players to paper over cracks. The thing is fans fall for it because the potential seems great, but the reality of assembling such a team often means that it falls apart at any sign of weakness. The best signings Roma made under Sabatini were midfielders and defenders. This fetish for attacking players peaked at Palermo, a club with far lower pressure.

Perotti has a chance to be useful because he can beat a man one-on-one and cross. He should help Dzeko.

El Shaarawy is another Salah.

He'll look good on the odd occasion that Roma get to counter-attack, but will get lost in the crowd in most games.
He and Balotelli were made to look good under Allegri, however the reality soon caught up with them.

El Sha is a half-season wonder. He has been average or injured since that half season of high scoring rate. If Roma won't be forced to buy him, it's not a horrible transfer. It's horrible if they'll be forced to buy him after 5 appearances like one rumor said.

Perotti is decent backup material. He will be of use unlike Iago, Iturbe, and Ibarbo, lol.

But neither are quality options as starters. Gervinho was decent, but he wanted to leave.

And the CB Roma is linked with is....

Barzagli is from that way...might have some truth in it.
Would make sense that we now apparently want to keep Caceres.

I cant see why we wouldnt extend him though, unless we told him he wouldnt be a definite starter next year with Rugani there. Maybe he said he'd had an offer from Florence. But he hasn't dropped in level, cant see why we would want to lose him.

35 in may though.

Why would be sell barzagli who is world class when fit. Sure hes injured sometimes but we can totally do with the 5 cbs we now got.

Gervinho, yeah, RiP roma. That guy was key for them. Carried the creating part.

This has to be the worst transfer since decades

I really cannot understand this Gervinho save.

Roma basically stops beeing a contender for CL and EL qualification with this sale.

Sabatini fans now have a good reason to abandon ship
