I gave Barcelona as an example because of the recent arguments, but that can simply apply to any team. When one says that he or she is a fan of a certain club's football it means they are fans of the team whether they like it or not. They might admire the way the team plays but when they start defending the team at every opportunity, they are inevitably fans of the mentioned team.

I think that's a load of rubbish, Jack. Everybody has a preferred style of play they enjoy watching, and these certain styles are not necessarly synonymous with the team that employs them, barring a few cases. Of course teams such as Ajax and Real Madrid have had distinctive styles of play in the past, however other clubs such as Milan and even Juventus have employed different styles within the past couple of years. And furthermore, most of the time it's up the manager, obviously..
By your somewhat puzzling logic, you are essentially insinuating that you were NOT a fan of Juventus during the past two seasons as you detested our style of play that was deployed by Capello. And rightfully so. Now, I know you don't want people thinking you abandoned Juventus because you thought our tactics were absolutely absurd. However, what else am I supposed to believe with your statements?
Indeed, I enjoy the way Barcelona and Lyon play football. However, the reason why I have defended the former in the past is because they are a target of abuse for people on this board who undeservedly state Barca was not deserving of the Champions League trophy last season. And yet, until this day, we still hear voices moaning about the preceding events of last season. It's the same thing every year... a particular group of fans will demean another club for their acheivements, whether rightfully or wrongly, doesn't really matter.
