And I jump to defend them at every opportunity.

Well, I never thought that Barcelona participate in figure skating. And I think when we mention Barcelona we mean FC Barcelona which means FOOTBALL Club Barcelona.

I gave Barcelona as an example because of the recent arguments, but that can simply apply to any team. When one says that he or she is a fan of a certain club's football it means they are fans of the team whether they like it or not. They might admire the way the team plays but when they start defending the team at every opportunity, they are inevitably fans of the mentioned team.

what you think

I think those people were talking the same way about AC Milan 2-3 seasons ago, about Real Madrid 3-4 seasons ago, about Bayern 4-5 seasons ago and etc.

u can be a fan of certain club, n u dont like their way or system of play ( as was the case with Juve under capello), but on the other hand u can be a fan of other clubs coz of their attractive style of play without necessarily loving the team !:smoke:
in both cases u can defend the mentioned clubs!!! 1st u defend the club u love even if not playing well coz u love them, 2nd u defend them coz they play well like Barca :smoke:

I think arsenal have lots of fans just loving their football, not for loving the club. I'm more a fan of chelsea, but when arsenal plays, i hope they win because that's when football is at it's best

:agree:  This all is very, very subjective.

For example, I sympathise Barcelona cause they offer me beautiful football and I tend to defend them in certain limits.

However, back in a while ManUtd and Arsenal played the most beautiful football, and I hated them and never even thinked of defending them.

It all depends what are your initial feelings for a certain team.

I always loved Juventus, whether they played lovely or ugly football, sure I was more proud when they played with style, but I wasn´t ashamed of them even when Arsenal humiliated us last season...

Then again we get to confuse ourselves with words like beautiful, great and wonderful.

What is good football? For some people it might be defending for 89 minutes and taking one chance and getting the winner. For others it might be dominating the match by holding possession all the time and making as many chances as possible. Others think that good football is kicking the ball from the defence line to the attackers and the attackers scoring.

In the end all this is subjective, all respect to paid to a certain way of football is subjective.

There is one word that is totally underrated especially on this forum, it is taste. No one seems to realize that people have different tastes and enjoy different kinds of football. When one says Barcelona are boring, a bunch jumps on him saying this is blasphemy. When some used to say that Capello plays good football, a bigger bunch called him gay, Zlatan cock sucker and other things.

When I say Barcelona sucks, it is because I think they do and when Andy thinks that they play good football it is because he thinks they do.

There is yet to come a definition of good football, personally I don't think there will.

Can you show me that people? :D

Jeeks, you gotta agree that Ajax football in 70´s was good football, people even named their style of playing as "Total Football".

Now, if that wasn´t good football, I don´t know what is?

Maybe Total football is not good football. Then again you said that people called them so, I am sure other people called them other names.

For the same reasons you think they play good football, I think the football they play is not good. It is all a matter of taste, do you know what taste means?

    Main Entry: 2taste
    Function: noun
    1 obsolete : TEST
    2 a obsolete : the act of tasting b : a small amount tasted c : a small amount : BIT; especially : a sample of experience <her first taste of success>
3 : the special sense that perceives and distinguishes the sweet, sour, bitter, or salty quality of a dissolved substance and is mediated by taste buds on the tongue
4 : the objective sweet, sour, bitter, or salty quality of a dissolved substance as perceived by the sense of taste
5 a : a sensation obtained from a substance in the mouth that is typically produced by the stimulation of the sense of taste combined with those of touch and smell : FLAVOR b : the distinctive quality of an experience <that gruesome scene left a bad taste in my mouth>
    6 : individual preference : INCLINATION
7 a : critical judgment, discernment, or appreciation b : manner or aesthetic quality indicative of such discernment or appreciation

there will not ever be a clear definition for "good football", it will always be subjective and depends on the background of the person and what does he find appealing the most.
The english will like the fast paced football with less skill, different to spanish where players with less technical skill wouldn't survive much. And so on in italy portugal ....

for me i guess it would be something like roma and barcelona play, total link up between the midfield and the attack with the use of one touch football and ofcourse the nice dribble/trick here n there wouldnt hurt.

For me, good football is something what Milan played in 2004/05 season in Champions League.

A balanced formation which worked perfectly in attack AND in defense.

There is no way Barcelona would beat Milan in that season.

P.S. I also think that Juventus played great and smart football from season 1994/95 to 1997/98.

Arsenal. In terms of wine, their football is champagne. Only somebody bring some tape and wrapped Henry's and Wenger's mouths, I won't be so caustic about them. Watching Hleb and Cesc, combination play is pure joy (though I think Hleb is overrated).

Apart from that I don't really mind watching the game as long as I see the work of "great players" doing what they do for living. I can watch Nesta (when he is actually OK) defending all day, and I'll even spend 89 minutes of dull stifling game, for likes of Dejan Savicevic, Dragan Stoijkovic, Roberto Baggio to conjure up magic. After all, you can only know happiness when there is a sadness.

But most entertaining game for me is, not so much one-touch crisp passing with give and goes all over the place. Nor teams scoring 4-5 goals every match. It is when two great teams going at each other with everything to loose and gain, trying their best for the glory. I'll trade a million Barca, Arsenal games or even Juve games to watch Italia vs Germany semi-final again. Apart from that I enjoy games I can attach myself to. I have watching Serie A for almost whole life, and despite recent drop in standards I am still more excited by those matches than Arsenal vs Chelski.

Barca style of play is based on Total Football since the majority of barca coaches are dutch

Same here, Serie A was always passionate and special to me and gave me the most pleasure in watching it, I hope it will return where its place is.

Total football might be nice to see but it may not be effective. Look at Brazil, they try to stay doing tricks to play nice football but then they get the asses handed to them by a team that plays hard and direct

good football is that people watching a game will enjoy it and not just be happy for their team winning , take forexample when ronaldenho scored 2 goals in madrid last season , real fans starts cheering for him since they enjoyed his goals , this is what i mean in good football
