Legro's recent performances are putting him in serious contention of becoming a real player, & out of being lumped in with our joke defenders Boumsong & Zebina. I'm really impressed bby himlast few games. He didn't give away a pen today, & thats gotta be an improvement. Another few games like this & he'll be in Donadoni's Italy squad for Scots & Faroe....

Legrottaglie Eyeing Up Euro 2008 Call-Up

Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie was delighted with his performance in the victory over Genoa and says that if he carries on in this vein of form then he is a definite contender to make the Italy squad for next summer’s Euro 2008 championships.

Legrottaglie was once again a rock at the heart of the Juventus defence as the Bianconeri moved into second place with last night’s 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I'm happy with the way I played, but most of all I'm happy with how the whole defence played,” said the 31-year-old.

“Tonight we only let our opponents have the one chance again, we're tight and we help each other out. Just like in Florence, we had to face one of the strongest forward line-ups and we contained them well.

“Am I thinking about the National team? It's early to say, but I'm putting myself in contention for the European Championship finals in June. Obviously I need to keep playing like this to deserve a call-up.”

Legrottaglie joined Juventus in 2003 and was tipped as a future Azzurri regular. However the stopper had a complete nightmare first couple of seasons in Turin, making mistake after mistake, before being farmed out on loan to Bologna and Siena.

He returned to the Bianconeri last summer for the successful Serie B promotion campaign but started the current season as the club’s last-choice central defender.

However since coming in for the injured Jorge Andrade during the week four match with Roma, Legrottaglie has been an absolute colossus, and the Bianconeri have since conceded just one goal (a penalty) in more than 400 minutes of Serie A football.

Am I the only one who fears Legro, as a 31-year-old, getting injured in a possible NT game with our already chopped-up backline?

The acknowledgment would be nice. But I'd rather avoid more chances for injuring and tiring the guy. We don't have a lot back there.

Man, this wants nominating as "Most unlikely post of the decade"

You're honestly worried of

1) Legro getting called up to azzurri squad
2) Our defence missing him
3) Not being alone in the above

If someone would have told you that in July you'd have applied to have them banned!
