Legrottaglie to sign on
Nicola Legrottaglie may be rewarded for his recent upturn in fortunes with a new Juventus contract.
Reports in Italy are suggesting that the stopper, who would be available on a free transfer in June 2008, is close to signing a fresh two-year contract worth £500,000 a campaign.
Legrottaglie has broken into the Juve first team of late given the central defensive problems which have hit the club.
Jorge Andrade, a £7m summer signing from Deportivo La Coruna, has been ruled out for the season with injury, while Domenico Criscito lacks experience.
It had looked like Legrottaglie’s Old Lady career was coming to an end last summer when he was close to signing for Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The 31-year-old’s Juve career has been difficult since arriving from Chievo Verona for £5.5m in the summer of 2003.
He struggled to settle and impose himself in Turin and was loaned out to Bologna and Siena before being recalled for the outfit’s 2006-07 Serie B bid.
Meanwhile, Juventus are being linked with a move for Independiente defender Carlos Javier Matheu today.
Still only 22, the Argentine started his career as a right-back but has been used as a central defender with regularity in recent times.
Juventus could make a bid of around £1m in December when the Argentine season comes to an end.
