I always wanted to conduct a survey and make my fellow peers at the University label as many countries on the map they can and provide the capital city for each of them. I wonder what sort of results I would find, however I doubt they would be very promising. I would also enjoy giving a similar "exam" to our friends across the pond in which they have to label each State and subsequent capital of the United States. Hmm, I wonder what results I would find.
Devastatingly bad ones.

On our defence though; they don't teach you those at primary school. They only nazi-drill you with the capital cities of actual nations.

Capital city of South Carolina? I have absotely no idea whatsoever. But I also have no idea what the capital city of Chuvash (a Russian state) is... Do you? I mean...

I can tell you that I don't know any state capital. I am not sure I can list all states either....
But the thing is, states and state capitals are not the same as countries and country capitals, so using this method is somewhat unfair. Shame we cannot just have another huge civil war, break up the country into 50 seperate entities, and then unite once again to form the American Union. Perhaps that would be interesting.

A book I read last Autumn for university suggested the European Union is an example of a true confederation, as opposed to for example the confederation that occupied most of what is now the USA; because that confederation eventually melted into an actual federation.

Begs the question if the EU won't follow that same road eventually, but it's an interesting theory nevertheless...

I couldn't name every state and it's capital :lol2:

But then, that's not a fair test as for one, there are only 50 states, and most of them receive a hell of a lot more media coverage than many small nations. I could easily name every country in Europe, Asia, or South America with it's capital, but I'd have a bit of a problem with Africa, as it's really never something you hear about.
I never had a problem at all with Europe and her capital cities, however Africa was major struggle for me in terms of capitals. However, naming the countries was obviously not as terrible and I think any decent human being should be able to name and label about 75% of the countries of this world.
