Speaking of anuses, tonight was my company Christmas...er...Holiday party.

This was the first time in 5 years we actually had it outside of work, so the accountants must be letting their iron grip slip a little with old age. They booked the club level of SBC Park, where the SF Giants play baseball and just walking distance from the office. And while I am the first person to be lulled into a drooling stupor while watching a baseball game, it was actually pretty cool -- as we got the run of just about the whole stadium: field, batting tunnel, clubhouses and locker rooms, press boxes, etc.

Such as, in addition to the phone bank, checking out the Ethernet and laptop jacks in the dugouts. Pick up a phone, and suddenly you're dialing the visiting team's GM... which was kind of bewildering when that happened, given that the Giants haven't played anybody in months.

IMO, the Giants organization is really smart about how they go about outreach to fans and the media. Apparently, it is only one of five privately funded MLB parks in North America ... and the first, and last, built since Dodger Stadium in 1962. And they have staffers who really point out the stadium details that come with ownership to make it a cool place -- instead of one owned by a municipality that's set up to minimize maintenance costs.

What does this have to do with anything? Just made me think about the potential for a stadium, particularly with private ownership, as the delle Alpi gets revamped. Fans and players hated Candlestick Park as the worst in MLB for nearly 40 years before SBC Park was built, and the aesthetics, culture, and fan attendance difference is like night and day.

Who knows? Maybe Italy will win rights to host Euro 2012 and will get a chance to revamp a lot of their stadia in the process -- much like what happened recently in Portugal. Italy sure could use it, and it might even bring a longshot chance of a CL final there. But there's something about the potential for a club-owned stadium -- as is the case in many other football leagues -- that could be lost.

Swag that is the shite. I am a huge baseball fan, well a huge Astros fan. Watching games in the Astrodome was my holy grail. Rock on Nukkah.

To get involved in an earlier discussion I would like to just make a statement about the USA.
IMO they are the most underrated team in the WC. Last time they made it to the quarterfinal, this time I would bet a 1000$ that they will reach the semi.
They surely play as a team and we all know about Americans and there winning spirit…
Had great results against for example Mexico in the qualifying. So remember where you read it first. Watch out for USA.

I might have lost 300 in vcash, however I'm over the moon that fvcking Man United are out of Europe completely. Now I do not have to worry about fvcking ESPN airing Manure-Werder Bremen or whichever worthless club that worthless club would have drawn.
I'm far less bothered by Man Utd than you, but I'm still happy to see them out (also in spite of losing some good vCash on them). Now, if only Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal could just get knocked out, the TV would show me some real football.

I just think our life in the tournament matters on the draw. We can handle one big team in Germany during the group stage, however if we somehow get placed in the group of death with the likes of Brazil, Holland, and Ghana, it will be a tough task to survive that group. The other thing I'm worried about is that in 2002 nobody really expected us to go far after a dismal performance four years earlier in France, and people really underestimated us...now four years later we are suddenly on the radar and nobody is going to take us lightly. I believe our team is just as strong as we were in 2002, however we will need to work hard over the upcoming months and I'm confident Bruce Arena can make us into another formidable team.

Good to see a supposed "Euro snob" give some credict to our national team. Can't say I have seen too much of that in the past, however people are starting to come around. I sure hope you are right though. ;)

Gah if we end up in a group like that; it's bonjour holland after two matches :lazy:

USA have a reasonable team, but the semi-finals are probably a bit too far for them. Second round should be no problem though.
The semifinal would depend on whether the USA follows South Korea's example and has wealthy patrons buying referees. If this does not happen, the USA might be hard pressed to earn a spot in the semis on the pitch. Still though, USA has a good squad that play for each other, and that is tough thing to play against.
