Surely rep should be awarded in a different way... eg if more than a set number of people respond in the same way to the same post

I think someone gave me negative rep in this thread as well. Luckily it's probably just some worthless troll who has a negative reputation himself.

But like I said before, your "real" reputation gets determined by the impact of your posts. Not by people who approve or disapprove your posts. I, for one, don't even bother to approve or disapprove a post.
