Anyone here saw "Amen"? a movie by Costa-Gavras on the passive attitude of the Catholic Church during the Holocaust. I just finished it.
I don't really know what to think of it. It's not a bad movie, but it condemns the church without a trial. I feel like it wants you to believe that were would be no Holocaust with a formal disapproval by the Pope, and all it does is showing the austere vatican as being the only wrong institution on this matter.
That's so simplistic. Every nation of the allies knew what was happening, and noone ever negociated with Hitler to try to free Jews. Plus, what influence would have a Popal action on this matter? Maybe it would've made things worse, I dunno...
And it's quite easy to say booo! you bad! But what did we do, when 1 million people were killed in Rwanda in '94? or in Bosnia?
