I really don't like this reputation thing. It's not as if I'm going to respect people more because they have two green squares instead of one. If anything, I'll distrust them.

I agree, and it's actually funny that some people became more friendly and less condescending once the rep thing caught steam.

Didn't work for me, I lost rep points after about 5 minutes. I think there should be a system where people widely regarded as twats, like tifoso lou for instance, should not be eligible to alter the rep of any given individual. Not that I'm bitter or anything

that's not the point of the rating system guys. you give rep to individual posts, not the "postee" so to say. so it doesn't matter if Bozi is known to you guys or not.

But the rep doesn't confine itself to the post, now does it? If the poster posts again; that post too will show two or more of those green squares. So you are very much awarding rep to the poster, rather than the post

However, the only way for a poster to be known to us is if he makes some very good posts...posts that you can remember.

But perhaps I just have not read some of his better posts.

Yeah but thats blatantly not whats happening imo. Would tifoso lou give andy (sorry to use your name here btw) or vinman (likewise) or anyone else that he likes negative rep simply for disagreeing with him? Of course not - its the poster not the post

Its pointless... and who says its for quality of post..

you might give / take rep cause they disagreed / agreed with you or you like / dislike that person etc etc... doesnt nes have any real bearing on the quality of the post

if someone has more than one square than they are considered good posters by some. anyways, just look beyond the squares if you wish :D

My impression of the reputation rating is that if the poster makes a solid post, you give him/her positive points. That would make sense, however you have people giving rep just because they like the poster or taking away rep because they hate the poster...it's hard to control, however looking at who is on top of the rep chart, Greg and Paul specifically, the ratings have not gone too far off the mark.

The only other way to do this is just have Marty give rep to members..
